Coventry City have been told they can sign Motherwell defender Eric Deloumeaux for half price - providing they do so within the next 24 hours.

Administrator Bryan Jackson is desperate to get the French defender off the cash-strapped club's wage bill before the new season.

And as a result he is prepared to part with the player for half of the £100,000 fee they paid Le Havre last November.

Coventry are known to be interested - assistant manager Eric Black brought him to Fir Park during his short-lived spell as manager there.

Jackson said: "He is a good player but I can't afford him. We wanted £100,000 for him but I would be prepared to accept £50,000.

"Coventry must let us know within the next 24 hours. If I can't move him on then I am prepared to play him next season."

Jackson has yet to sanction any new signings in the wake of the sacking of nine senior pros and the release of another 10 players when the club went into administration in April.

Coventry City is again underlining its commitment to youth development by revealing it has kept on all but one of last season’s second-year trainees.
Goalkeeper Per Fahlmen, defenders Sean Cooney, Kirk Miller, Richard Spong and Stephen Grant, midfielders Mark Noon and David Pipe along with striker Avun Jephcott all reported to Sky Blue Lodge this week to take up their place in the third year of the Academy.

Coventry City Football Club has completed the loan signing of Scotland international Gary Caldwell from Newcastle United.

Two of Coventry City’s rising stars have signed contract extensions.
Calum Davenport and Lee Fowler have both committed themselves to the club until 2005 as the Sky Blues continue their drive to bring through talent from the youth ranks.
Davenport, 19, received the Man of the Match award after an impressive debut against Bradford City in the club’s final Premiership game. The central defender was originally under contract until 2004. Fellow 19-year-old Fowler, who was called-up to the full Welsh squad in March, was due to see his existing deal run out in June 2003. Both have come through the Academy system at Highfield Road.

From teamtalk, so it's BS though we won't get Flowers.

Gary McAllister has played down talk of a bid for Tim Flowers and could now turn his attention to Leeds' reserve keeper Danny Milosevic. The new City boss is chasing a goalkeeper as Magnus Hedman's departure from Highfield Road is thought to be imminent.
The Sky Blues offered a deal to Raimond Van der Gouw but the former Manchester United shot-stopper elected instead to join West Ham.
Flowers was linked with the club after an impressive loan spell last season, but McAllister is believed to be lining up Milosevic after virtually ruling out a move for the former England goalkeeper.
He said: "It was a bit disappointing to lose contact with Raimond and we are now looking to get someone else on board.
"Our attention has switched elsewhere and we have got one or two things which are ongoing.
"Tim Flowers is a name that has been thrown at me but at the moment we have got two or three other options which we are pursuing, so that's it really."
Australian Milosevic signed for Leeds for £200,000 from Perth Glory in 2000. His first team chances have been limited, however, by Nigel Martyn and Paul Robinson.
The 24-year-old is tipped to become a top-class keeper and has been touted as Australia's long-term replacement for Mark Bosnich.
A move could depend on what plans Leeds have for Martyn with - if recent polls are to be believed - the majority of fans believing that Paul Robinson should be promoted to number one.
That belief is not because Martyn is in any way losing his form, it is because Robinson is so good they are scared of losing him to another club.
Meanwhile, wantaway Hedman does not look like he will be heading to Spanish side Espanyol, who were tracking the Sweden international.
Instead, Arsenal's Alex Manninger seems set for Spain after contracts were drawn up for both players and Manninger was the cheaper option so they pushed ahead with their plans to land the Gunners star.
