Hey, I wish I'd thought of that 8 years ago when LLM was being introduced.

It's astonishing the things we missed.

Like naming players...how could that hurt, and tactics naming...and tipping...

We thought of absolutely nothing when the Rules and Guidelines were drawn up.

Amazing, eh?

I asked this question to the might Billericay Town (ryman premier) genius of a manager

He mostly get players through players wanting trails and then playing them in pre season games or reserve team fixtures he much prefers that to scouting players as in his opinion you can learn much more information from a player through that then watching him play for another side as you can then actually see him perform using his tactics and alongside the clubs current players

He did say he uses the non league paper to get a rough idea of opposition star players and with lower league players he does have their players looked at if they consistently get man of match in the non league papers match report

Also the ryman league and the conference leagues do produce a list of transfer listed players from which our manager has tried to obtain players on trail/loan in order to have a look over them

Scouting is not really possible at non league level as teams will have matches on Saturday and Tuesday and training on Thursday and the clubs simply do not have the resources to do to much scouting and in Billericay case the scant resources available for scouting are used to look at upcoming opposition than for new players (after last nights shower we need them ahh well bring on the swansea sheep sheep shaggers)

The one player source noticeably missing from FM is the "local" one.

Someone who runs a youth team or a school sports master, even a parent will tip a LL manager that a lad has potential.

Also it's strange that one of your players can reccomend a staff member to you but not the guy he played with at Bognor and who he rates.

It's interesting to find out about how real life LL teams work, playing the LLM way has definately sparked more of an interest in LL football for me.

Before I was a more traditional supporter and just followed my team. But now I find myself paying more attention to results and match reports of the lower tiers (better for a short attention span too, as they are usually quite short ).

Since coming here, not only have I regained my enjoymnet of FM, but football in general, outwith my own club. Found myself lately stopping for a few minutes to watch some kids playing, or pub/amateur teams, and remembering why I loved football in the first place.

I'm still considering sending of a few speculative emails (very much doubting I'd get a reply). But not for the reason of attemtimg to change current LLM guidelines, as they work very well within the confines of the game.

And as Craig said, it could lead to interesting tpoics/discussions.

Oh, and Ian, I'm am 100% convinced that this has all been done before. But some of us are still baby LLaMa's, and still have a lot to learn about real LL football.

Bit baffled by this reply, either I'm missing your point, or you're missing mine.

Ian there were three reason why I started this thread.

Firstly it's a very, very slow day at work, secondly a sticky confirming how things actually work in real life might stop those FAQ's (I admit it does rely on the sticky being read) & finally I think we would all accept that football as a business/sport is constantly evolving & where is the harm in establishing whether the LLM way as it stands is a reasonable reflection on the modern game.

Please don't take this as an attempt by a newbie to change LLM that is not my intention, I'm more than happy that the way I currently play the game is as fair possible & more importantly I've not enjoyed a save as much as my current one which is about 10 seasons longer than any I've managed previously.

LLM is constantly evolving. When something in the game happens along that needs looked at then it is, changes are made if necessary, and everyone goes home happy.

There's no change at all to the FM availability of real life type transfer lists, so there's no need to change it, it's been discussed to death, the way we play it is as realistic as the game allows.

Now, the guidelines are there as just that. Guidance. It's a game, it's counterproductive to lay down laws (although everyone and his mother thinks that's what LLM's about), play the game as you see fit (wait...isn't all this in the guidelines?), if what you do isn't LLM then a LLaMa will soon tell you.

You want pointless discussion on something that will seldom change? I'm sure they're discussing Britney's tits in Off Topic.
