Players here tend to have connections through European ex-pats who are now living locally in Canada, rather than get "scouted" simply because they've become part of the national team set up. Or, as a current England International who went to Man Utd via Bayern Munich, identified in spite of not being included in the national side at all.
It's rare that a player gets an opportunity in Europe simply because he played for a youth national team here in Canada. Almost always it's because of connections he'll come across in his playing days.
