| He wouldn't cope in a top job with his depression. He couldnt get out of City quick enough due to the pressure. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Didn't think it was ever established why he quit? Heard various rumours.

Can see him taking up a sort of Director of Football role in the future, less pressure for him, has the Economics degree if he wants a different career.

Coppell is possibly the most bizarre example of a manager suddenly being overtaken by pressure - within 33 days of taking over.
He arrived at Maine Road with high hopes, but suddenly found himself unable to cope with life at Manchester City.
Coppell said at the time: "I'm not ashamed to admit that I have suffered for some time from huge pressure I have imposed upon myself, and since my appointment this has completely overwhelmed me to such an extent that I cannot function in the job the way I would like to.
"As this situation is affecting my well-being, I have asked Francis Lee to relieve me of my obligation to manage the club on medical advice.
"I am therefore resigning for personal reasons. I'm extremely embarrassed by the situation and I would like to apologise first and foremost to Francis Lee and his board, who have done everything in their power to help me." | |

Seems strange tbh. He's obviosuly not gonna get a "top" job if he quits from Reading.
Paul Jewell taken a job a couple of weeks too early, Reading would've been perfect for him | coppell will see out the season. derby get relegated, jewell jumps ship. easy. </BLOCKQUOTE>
If history tells us anything I'm not even sure he'll see out the year now he's the let the cat out of the bag. What's the point of handing him money in January to build for the future?

Yes Matt, I'm more talking about the actual reasons though, rather than what he said at a press conference at the time so he could walk away. I'd suggest it wasn't the cut and tried stress issue that was givenm at the time. Was under the impressions that most people thoguht there was more to it as well.
