I'm applying for history and, unless my results are a major disappointment (and a bit of a surprise tbh), I'll be applying to Oxbridge. Up until last week, I was definitely applying for Cambridge but now I'm not so sure after having visited Oxford last Friday. Went back up to Cambridge on Monday and am visiting Oxford again tomorrow so hopefully I'll be able to make my choice soon. The decision really comes down to whether I want to take History and Politics and whether I can be bothered with the history aptitude test. Aside from Oxbridge, I"m thinking of places like Edinburgh, Durham, York, Warwick, Nottingham, Bristol etc - haven't done enough research on these yet though.
| I do History at York afer being rejected by Oxford. \o/

Got a feeling mine is going to be pretty rubbish as I hardly do anything. I've got my interest in the subject I wanna do, and I've got sports in that I was captain of teams in and out of school but that's about it.
| Yeah that sums up my opinions on my personal statement. Although I am starting to coach my brothers football team so I feel that could be quite good.

| That sounds like it's going to be pretty good to me. The main thing they care about is that you're good at and really interested in your subject.

The basic layout ofr my personal statement, as advised by the school will be:
Paragraph 1: Why I like history, without saying 'I like history because'
Paragraph 2: Other subjects and how they link to history e.g. French has enabled me to look at issues from an international perspective and to look at original sources
Paragraph 3: Extra-curricular stuff
Paragraph 4: General interests, essentially what makes me 'tick' so I will probably discuss the books I read, my interest in politics and sport in this section.

Quick scan through and I've spotted a few errors such as "seen my captain my cricket teams" but will sort them another day.

Jonno you absolute nutter, rule 1 of writing personal statements, never make them public, some idiot could see this and copy it and then apply to the same unis as you meaning you both get rejected. If you need assistance I'd highly reccommend posting it here... http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=134
Where it can only be seen by uni graduates and current students who will offer great advice.
I'd ask a mod to take that down, but your choice.
