Yeah thing is linear algebra is extremely useful, but a lot of the useful stuff is not taught. Proofs and all are important, but sometimes mathematicians will get bogged down in them to the detriment of non-mathematicians taking a course, or to any applied research. Obviously the work of mathematicians is all necessary but I think their thought process can slow down research (I can give specific examples if anyone's interested). The tools of mathematics should be of benefit, not a hindrance.

| ok, trinity is a pretty nice college. I was at St Peter's and whilst I thought it was amazing I'd actively tell people not to apply there as the current master is doing his best to stifle any sort of social life there. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Well I haven't actualy visited there and had to make a choice on the website alone. What subject did you do there?

Economics & Management.
Was ok as I initially did it because of the economics and then realized that actually the economics was frickin hard and that I enjoyed the management much more.

Lancaster (AAB)
Leicester (AAB)
Essex (AAB/ABB)
Hoping for Liverpool, I really like the city. Is anyone else doing Law?

Yeah I'm like 90% sure I'm doing law.
Will likely be applying to Liverpool. Leicester is another I've considered.

I've applied for history to Cambridge (Trinity), Durham, Warwick, Edinburgh and Bristol. It's all feeling a bit too 'real' now as I've received letters acknowledging my application and Cambridge have indicated when my interview will be and when I need to send essays into them. I'm beginning to get nervous about it all although it's probably very good news as I'm feeling much more motivated to get a lot of reading done and really ensure I properly prepare myself. It doesnt help, however, that I'm having 2nd thoughts about whether history is the right subject for me but it's too late to thinka about that for now so will just have to put it all to the back of my mind.

| rejections aren't the worst thing in the world either.
was upset about the Yale deferral I received in the winter for roughly half a day. when I was rejected in the spring, I didn't care at all.
then I went to a school I ended up hating, so that's where you've got to be careful |

| Aww noone's interested in my specific examples? Was hoping to give a nice lecture on Green's function singularities. Not surprised though |
