Do you only get 5 choices this year? When have they changed that?

| i'm at sussex and it is very good. i visited brighton but it looked terrible, full of jokers. brighton has sites dotted all round the town. sussex is near falmer which is just outside brighton (about 5-10 minutes by train, there's a station right outside). it's also all one campus and quite secluded - there's fields all round the back of you. it's quite a pleasant setting really, and it's what shifted my mind when i visited. good uni. what are you hoping to do?

Yeah, probably looking to do English and Media. What do you mean Brighton is full of jokers? Black people? Brighton is basically my 'banker' but sussex is my first choice as of now, unsure whether i have the capability to get in, Sussex is a good university what is the area like though?

Lol, exactly what's wrong with a high proportion of privately educated people?
In terms of what unit to apply for, simply apply to what suits you best, and most importantly what is realistic, especially with one less choice this year.
Reputation tends to be tiered, so if you're pedantic, you shouldn't be.
Top: LSE / Cambridge / Oxford
2nd: UCL / Imperial / Warwick / Durham
3rd: Bristol / Bath / Nottingham
It's approximate, nothings set in stone, but thats a rough idea of how things are...
| Do you come from Bath or something?
Very little difference between reputation of UCL/Imperial\Warwick/Bristol as far as I know, certainly wouldn't put them on different tiers.

black people no, i just mean clowns who have gone there to waste a few years, which is fair enough, but the courses are obviously taught to cater for them.
i take it by asking what the area is like you mean the campus as opposed to brighton itself. afaik the sussex english department is good yeah, i have a few friends who do it and they needed pretty high grades to get in and seem happy enough with the course itself.
and what specifically do you want to know about the area? what the campus is like? brighton? facilities etc?

oxbridge has a higher acceptance rate then the ivies only because most schools only allow people who are qualified (ie AAA students) to apply. in the US, almost every person applies to atleast one ivy (i was going to apply to 3 and i only got a 2200 on my sat).
the university im going to (emory) is $50k a year, which is slightly above most top 20 schools... btw, umich is something like 45k a yr for out of state students (in ref to what someone said before).
btw, where u goin to uni andy?

| something along the lines of ABB/AAB but i don't know for sure and it might be different for your specific course.
the campus is great really, i loved it in first year, everything is in easy reach and there were bars / shops / gyms / sports fields / fairly big library and the like. also a **** club which i only lowered myself to going to once. regular bus service for travel into brighton, and a train station outside the entrance. it's a generally pleasant environment to live in, if you visit an open day they'll hammer the fact it's the 'only uk uni entirely inside an area of outstanding natural beauty' which makes it sound more stellar than it really is but it's still nice enough. you can easily get by with only actually bothering to go into brighton in order to go out (because the bars etc. on campus aren't that amazing). they've just finished a load of plush new accomodation too and they're getting rid of the scummy old stuff (i think).
brighton itself is cool too. plenty to do, lots of gigs and the like if you're into that sort of thing, some good places to go out both pubwise and foodwise, and it's great for shopping in general. then of course you've got the beach which is always nice to have around. i'm trying to be objective but there really isn't too much i dislike about brighton - it even seems to have lower proportions of chavs than the general population, but sadly at the expense of having masses of emos. oh, also the bus drivers are all mentalists.
