yes, that's a fair assessment. you're restricted to 4 schools, right?

| Not that good tbh, the college I applied to had an acceptance rate of 1 in 4 for E&M the main reason I applied to the college I did. </BLOCKQUOTE>25% nothing to sneeze at imo.

| A lot of perfectly capable kids from state schools don't apply which i think is one of Oxbridges biggest problems. Its also why the ratio of public school kids is so high. Everyone who goes to a public school who is remotely clever will be pushed into applying to Oxbridge.
From state schools however often only those who are extremely clever will be given the opportunity/advice needed to apply. I was lucky in that my sixth form college gave everyone who achieved 6 A's-A*'s (the bare minimum required to apply) the talks on applying to Oxbridge. I would tell anyone on course to get 3 A's to apply and do their best.

If you're going to do Oxbridge, go to Oxford, nothing happens in Cambridge and it's in the middle of nowhere. At least you can escape to London if you're at Oxford.

Applying for Oxbridge is a bit of a gamble. The deadline is around October and you apply to six universities. If you apply to one of the two, chances are you'll also be applying to second tier universities like Durham, Edinburgh and so on, who, in a fit of jealousy will reject you if they think you've applied to Oxbridge. So if you miss Oxbridge you'll have nothing to fall back on. At least that's what they told us when we were doing this.
Which is why a lot of people don't bother, certainly the case at my school.

you can apply for 6 maximum
Although iirc you can only apply to one of oxford or cambridge. Also if applying for medicine you can only apply to 4 places, and have to use the remaining 2 for other subjects (or leave them blank i suppose)

whilst there are definitly some cases of oxbridge applicants getting rejected from some good unis (almost all my friends at Oxford were rejected from at least one good uni, I was rejected from Bristol) you should still get offers from most of the unis you apply to.

| Thats a good point. Unis arent supposed to know where else you've applied to, but if they get your application early chances are you've applied to oxbridge.
