It's close to a 4 month break in Poland, with one game start of November, 1 end of February. A few friendlies are played in the break. Winter transfer window is February.

I think all Eastern/Central-Eastern European countries have the winter break. It's not that the winter is always harsh, but it's really unpredictable - this winter we didn't have snow in Hungary, but in 2005 it was ****in' snowstorm even on the starting day of the spring season.

The break is one more excuse for your team being carp BTW

The winter break an ever bountiful source of utter carpness for my squad it seems as it takes them weeks to shed the flab after winter hibernation (big, hirsuite and grumpy, they may as well be bears ).

2010/2011

First half is messy but what was requested, big home wins against small away losses see us midtable. New left winger shows some actual quality and subsequently becomes the sole source of creativity on my team. As soon as hes marked out of the game we start losing. Finances are even tighter with the wages down to just over 10k, and the fans are getting restless. This isn't helped by the team returning from the winter break and losing 4 in a row in a display of pure untainted carpness. We scrape together 3 shots on target in the four games.

Cue changes as we rocket towards the relegation zone (when 3 points seperate 8th-16th this isn't hard) and a change of approach brings around a change in fortunes. Handing the season ticket holders flame throwers and easy access proves to have a positive effect and we win 2 of the last 3 to finish safe.

Left winger is snapped up the instant the transfer window opens, off for 50k having netted 14 assits and 7 goals in an impressive season. A close season of shocks as the chairman only expects me to avoid relegation, gives me a 13k budget and sets me lose on the transfer market with 9k of vodka to tempt a few erstwhile prospects. A couple of scouted ukrainians bolster the side. Also sell 21 season tickets, a huge number for our little team. Our PR man gets a raise from the chairman, now gets a biscuit with his weekly cup of tea.

Onto more carpness.

Polish 2L.: 13th
Cups: Don't Ask.

This update makes me laugh.

And not just because of your managing skills.

KUTGW! Good job avoiding relegation.

2011/2012

A change of formation secured our spot in the league the previous season so we stick with it. Replacement left winger in, not quite as good but still pretty sharp. Raiding of ukrainian freebies sees some key strengthening in the middle and our defence is stregthened with some abandoned foreign freebies from the top division teams. Aim of the day is better than last season.

Season starts well, and were tophalf come winter break. Another freebie in to provide backup down the left side. We actually win a cup game, then get spanked in the second round of the polish cup. Ageing striker is given the captains armband, told hes playing for a contract, and starts scoring hattricks for fun, happy days.

As usual we come back from the winter break sluggish, and lose our first 3 games seeing us drop to 7th. Fortunately we only lose one more game after that in a ridiculous run which sees us needing a better result than 3rd place Cracovia on the last day to secure a playoff spot. They lose 1-0 at home to relegated Miedz, we slot 4 away in a 4-2 win over also relegated Koszarawa. The shock nearly kills the chairman and when we scrape through the playoff game 4-2 on average we have to cart the old geezer off to the local hospital.

Thankfully a few vodkas later hes back and offers me a new contract asking me to manage a solid midtable 2nd division finish. Don't you just love low expectations. For this he gives me a 28k wage budget, I need a stiff drink myself at the thought of that much financial clout. We sell a lot of season tickets, or to be more accurate we sold more season tickets than our previous league seasons average attendance, this ignoring a 4000 attendance for the playoff second leg, which inflated our numbers to 639 for the season. 549 rabid lechia fans have suddenly materialised and the fiercly loyal hordes swarm to our first game of the season, time for the new season, the highs and lows, the great goals and the not so great defending, but of course that is another story for another time .

Polish 2L: 3rd, playoff promotion
Cups: We got a win, wahey! but they still suck ass so don't ask.

PS:Oh, and another left winger sold, equally not so good replacement shipped in, can see us having a problem there soon.

aaaaw man. I'm kind of an expert when it comes to Polish League. Had I noticed this thread before I could've given you a couple of nice tips First of all - You've chosen reaaaaly crappy teams. I mean - Polish League IS pretty crappy ,but Podbeskidzie and Lechia are, like, Crappy Olympics gold medalists. Respect. That's what FM is all about - achieving something from a scratch.
Second of all - struggling with financial difficulties is one of the most interesting aspect of playing in the Polish second division. Nothing is more pulse-raising than seeing your best player go to a better club for a 50K deal <euros> cause chairman said "the offer was too tempting to resist".

And ,cooooome oooon , we don't drink THAT much vodka
Good luck ,mate!
