Season 07/08 - Solihull Moors - Blue Square North
Media prediction: 19th
Board expectation: Enjoy the experience of participating in the BSN
Players in: 8 permanently, 1 season loan, 1 short loan (total cost: nothing)
Players out: 9 (total net: ₤1K)
Well, I didn't enjoy the experience much until the last quarter of the season, but I avoided relegation which I set out to do. We started reasonably, went on a 16 game streak without a win which had us entrenched in the relegation zone, and then lost only one of our last 12 to finish quite comfortably out of the bottom three by 15 points. Spent my entire budget on free transfers - some were effective (classy striker, wasteful AMC) and some were rubbish, but avoiding relegation was always the goal and it was achieved. Managed to stay a fair way under wage budget all season, but the club still bled cash. Board were overall pleased and cups were trash.
I promised the board I'd avoid relegation to get myself some extra wages; a moot point as I'd be sacked regardless if I didn't avoid the drop but it at least helped me sign a keeper I'd wanted for the past year, who didn't miss a game. I somehow convinced a promising young centre-half to join me on loan from the local EPL team (Brum) and he was immense all season, while my scouts' ability to uncover uncontracted players - particularly a very professional AMC later in the season - saved me in stretches when injuries and especially suspensions (7 red cards, including 4 to one player, and numerous yellows) had my squad depleted. Stayed around the playoff spots all season and an 82nd minute screamer away to Boston Utd in the last game secured me a playoff spot on goal difference. Cups were trash, board delighted with me.
Playoff semi-final vs Hednesford: A non-affair really. Two first half goals to them in the first leg were the only scored all tie, with yet another red card early in the second leg at home signing and sealing it. They beat Southport in the final to make it two newly-promoted teams who were promoted again, joining Bedford in the Blue Square Premier.

Season 09/10 - Solihull Moors - Blue Square North
Media prediction: 11th
Board expectation: Top half finish
The season started with Oldham coming in for my star right defender, and at ₤14K I didn't have to accept, but I had cover, a cheap replacement lined up and couldn't deny him going to a League One club. Started like a house on fire, winning the first eight with new signing, a crafty striker, netting 15 goals and 11 assists in 21 games before tearing his calf. My scout found me a replacement young striker who i snapped up, and he was a revelation with 22 goals, while the trio was rounded out by determined striker who grabbed 18 of his own. I stayed on top pretty much the whole season, and despite a real slip-up in the second last game where I lost to a 98th minute winner, Leigh could only draw away to Worcester on the final day, while I traveled to Kings Lynn and speedy striker grabbed a late winner to send me up on his return.
Cups were actually handy this season, as a good run in all three - combined with a healthy wage structure (known as 'play for peanuts or feck off') - allowed the club to slice it's debt considerably, as I made a small profit nearly every month of the season.
I assembled what I thought was a competitive squad for this level, started out pretty well to sit midtable after eight games, but after that it just unraveled. Defensive blunders, red cards (17 for the season!) and just general carpness showed that we weren't ready for this level, and we were relegated with a game to play, despite looking like we might avoid it with a late season mini-revival. Positives were the clubs finances, which were now looking fairly healthy, and the board's decision to offer me a new deal despite the relegation, so I set out to come straight back up. Negatives were the cups, which were trash.
I told the board I'd be around the mark, and my scouts earnt their dosh by finding me a few local teenagers to loan, while I kept the core of my squad from last season's fateful campaign, determined to give them a chance to bounce back. They duly delivered, moving into the top two after five games and staying there all season. Young striker was immense in the title run-in, netting 13 of his 28 for the season in the last dozen games, becoming the club's all-time leading scorer in the process, while he got great assistance by a loanee AMC who bagged 23. My crafty striker, now club captain, also set a club record for assists playing the supporting striker role to perfection, and it was up for another crack at the Conference. Cups were trash, including a spectacular 0-7 loss to League One side Peterborough, although it smashed records for attendance and gatekeepings.
