It tries to make all/as many as possible files contiguous, but its down the the crappy way windows/ntfs handles files which makes it so you have to defrag in the first place.

| Hmm, okay, sounds innocent enough. I will still find all my files where I left them though yeah? Stuff like My Documents and folders on the desktop and stuff won't go missing or anything...

Everything will be as it was. Nothing to worry about, except it might take awhile to do it if you never have before

Sorry mate...the only reason I didn't put you down was that I hadn't seen you around for a while, I thought you may be a tad busy with other things. However, your invaluable input in this thread would be greatly appreciated
I hope that makes up for the "harshness" |

We are having a customer event on Thursday, trying to make desktops more appealing, so we set a desktop up today with 3 screens next to each other and a driving game. Needed a quality video card to run this, spoke to NVidia and asked if they would send us a couple to test out, they sent us one that apparently retails at £2000 (!). I've never seen a graphics card like it, it weighs a ton and will surely sound like a hurricane when its hooked up, haven't tested it yet. Tested another one they sent us and that works fine.

So yeah, essentially what I'm asking is this: if I defrag will I find all my stuff in different places or anything horrific like that? Or will it just magically make my computer all speedy and delicious?
Thanks in advance boffins! | Think of it like moving pages in a paper filing system so that you can find everything more quickly.

2 questions please
1. I have a windows vista(basic) laptop. It came with a 90 day free trial of Norton Internet Security which I wont be taking up after the trial.
Question is I want a free Anti virus AND Firewall. I tried Zonealarm and didnt like it (personal thing really, didnt like layout)
2. I have in my desktop an AGP Geforce 6200. I want something with a bit more oomph (dont need the latest spec) but something that will perform better on the games I have such as oblivion and FEAR. But i dont really want to go over £100 if possible
The rest of my specs are:
Pentium 4 2.6Ghz
768 Meg Ram

There are free anti-virus packages and firewalls available but most of them aren't much good.
I personally wouldn't recommend using AVG as your AV. I believe it isn't as good as most of the pay AVs out there.
Remember to have an antispyware package too.
Windows Firewall is pretty good but doesn't monitor traffic.
I'd seriously suggest that you read up on different antivirus packages and see which ones take your interest.
Investigate further, then download a trial.
The most common ones I can think of are
Norton
Mcafee
Kapersky
Sophos
There are others that I haven't listed but that's enough to give you an initial idea.

I have the agp version of the nvidia 7600gt and am running a similar spec machine to you (P4 3.02ghz, 1gb ram)
The card eats anything on high settings including battlefield 2142 and C&C3. Although i am only running 1024x768.
head over to ebuyer and i think its around £110 now
