OK, to demonstrate my complete ignorance when it comes to all things technological, I can't get FM08 to play on my PC as of earlier today.
I can load up the basic game but when I try to load the game I have been playing it comes up with an error message saying "FM is running dangerously low on memory. Please quit and free up some memory". It then goes on "FM has run out of memory and will quit".
I've cleaned up and defragmented, and there's load of room available on the HD.
Anyone any ideas? I'm presuming it is to do with RAM but don't know enough to check =how much is available or how (if) it can be increased without resorting to buying extra RAM.
And if I do have to get extra RAM, is it hard to install?
When playing FM, Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to get into Task Manager. Then post what it says under PF Usage and also what the figure under 'Physcial Memory Total' is
in my experience Dells albeit older ones (2003-2005) are extremely fussy when it comes to brand, speed and size. Got so frustrated with one one time just kept getting bios beeps all the time no matter what combination i used.
The PC is a Compaq. Physical memory 392688. I suspect that's too little. I can't get FM to run to see what the usage is like when it is open, but the system cache (whatever that is) is stable at 128920 with this open, and there's only ~172000 available. Is that the problem?
They've got a scanner that will tell you exactly what you have installed or if you know the make/model of the machine it will tell you the standard set up and what RAM is compatible and the max it can take
