Had this thing happen to me in about the 80-something minute of the Champions League final when I was leading, on one of the old FM's.
GUTTING.

Yup you're actually using virtual memory to run most of that. And ive not played the latest FM but from my FM2007 days thats alot of memory being used on that and a few other apps

So now I know that I need extra RAM, how do I work out what version of it I need? A quick look online tells me there are all sorts of different varieties. If I buy in another, say, 512 mb, I still need to know other stuff.
Told you I was ignorant about this kind of thing.

They've got a scanner that will tell you exactly what you have installed or if you know the make/model of the machine it will tell you the standard set up and what RAM is compatible and the max it can take

Have you ever looked inside your machine, James? Do you even know if you have any spare slots?
Try running something like CPU-Z http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
Have a look on the SPD tab, see what memory you're using and if you've got any free slots, if you have put more in that matches or exceeds the speed of what you've got installed, if no replace some/all of your existing RAM.

Cheers - I'll try that. One of the few things I do know is that there are spare slots.

Shows you what I know. The Crucial site tells me I've got two slots, but I've got 2 x 256 MB RAM in them. So if I replace them with 2 x 512MB then I think I should be there.
Part of me wonders whether I should just get a new PC but cash reserves are low so I think not.

DDR2 James? It's so stupidly cheap at the moment you may as well buy 2x 1GB.
