Devendra
And if you like him, you seriously MUST check out the two Vetiver albums. He is quite obvious on the first, and the second album is probably better.
Vetiver probably the best of the "freak-folk" scene imo.

i guess you shouldnt really consider my opinion on that kind of music. im not a great fan. i used to be fan of klaxons back in the day before they got big.
the hot chip mix is very good. the new single 'my piano' is as catchy as over and over. the ray charles remix is really good too

vetiver were quite good when i saw them live (in a mixed set with adem, vashti bunyan and juana molina :cool but i have never been able to get into them on record. devendra is awesome though, the album cripple crow really struck a chord with me around the time my grandfather died, so that has kind of a special standing to me. it's a bit lame, but i'm a sucker for all that freakfolk stuff.

Saw devendra first at pukkelpop in 2004, and since then I've not been able to get enough. His show at the Comedy Club with Espers supporting will live forever in my memory, and I saw him play with Vetiver supporting last year. Rob Da Bank put out a decent compilation of "new folk" last year, with a disc of US stuff (Vetiver, Micah P Hinson etc) and one of UK stuff (Acid Casuals, Tunng and so on) that is worth a listen.
And your location :*) Love love love that song.

Architectue in Helsinki. Amazing.
The first album was a rather experimental, their second was better but still very patchy. Places Like These is brilliant. They've traded whimsical for dancibility. It's closest companions have to be The Knife, and Of Montreal, with a wee dash of Man Man.
I was hungover this morning and woke up with my music playing and the window open. No clue how I got home or anything. Next thing I knew I was listening to their latest and greatest. Cognisant that the first half of the LP was good but a song I had yet to hear came on. Wah wah wah's over the most familiar chord progression ever, but I was up and dancing. **** it, I was properly windmilling.
You need this album. Urging you all to get your hands on it.
They're playing Koko in early September which is perfect for me as one of my housemates is staying in Camden for a bit at that time.
