What about glandular fever?
Also lets not forget it was meningitis that took Lee Sharpe out of Manchester United's team for about a season

This happened to Markus Babbel or Veggard Heggum at Liverpool (cant remember which) - he was out for at least 8 months with a serious viral infection.
Also, there a things like staph which can take hold after surgery that can be deadly, and cause athletes to miss many months of action in the worst cases, however once recovered the athlete will show no signs of illness.

Hi guys,
This is not as far fetched as it seems, I read this post and it casted my mind back to a certain 'Markus Babbel' who was a German International at Liverpool FC (Amongst others)
Eray and the rest of you guys might like to check these 2 links, it may be the virus that your player has got :o http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/team/past_...layers/babbel/ http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/gbs/gbs.htm
P.S. - This actually kept Markus out for basically the entire season.

is a Stath infection a virus?
if not then probably HIV, he just needs 6 months of cortizone to get back to elite football.
