Santana sidelined at Fiorentina

ACF Fiorentina winger Mario Alberto Santana faces five to six weeks on the sidelines after suffering a thigh strain during the UEFA Cup first round win against FC Groningen.

Santana injured his right leg after coming on as a substitute in the 1-1 second-leg draw (2-2 on aggregate) with the Dutch club, which preceded Fiorentina's victory in a penalty shoot-out on home soil. The 25-year-old Argentinian international will therefore be unavailable for the first two dates of UEFA Cup group stage matches, on 25 October and 8 November. Fiorentina will learn their opponents and fixture schedule after Tuesday's group stage draw. Santana, signed from US CittÃ* di Palermo in 2006, has made five Serie A appearances for the Florence team this season.

Livorno Sack Orsi

Fernando Orsi has been sacked by Livorno President Aldo Spinelli after a disastrous start to the season.

The Amaranti are yet to win this campaign and currently sit bottom of Serie A with just two points from seven games. The outlook was already looking bleak for Orsi after the 5-1 and 4-2 defeats to Juventus and Palermo in the first two weeks of the season.

Things improved slightly with consecutive draws against Genoa and Inter, but the Tuscans have since lost three matches on the spin. The last straw was on Sunday with the 1-0 loss to Catania at the Stadio Massimino.

“Fernando Orsi has been sacked, but we are still looking for a replacement and do not have a name yet,� read an official statement from Spinelli.

Orsi’s assistant Luciano Spinosi has been put in temporary charge until a permanent replacement can be found. Due to the international break, the Labronici do at least have some time to prepare for their next match against fellow-strugglers Lazio on the weekend of October 20/21.

Orsi was appointed as Livorno boss in March of this year, taking over from Daniele Arrigoni. His first game in charge, like his last, was against Catania.

Tbf to Orsi, there isn't much more he can do with the players he has.

That's true coz Livorno sold a lot lately, but what I menat was that Italian clubpresidents never remember those things and therefor it didn't suprise me at all that Orsi got sacked

Uh, 2 years ago everyone was saying how Capello was getting the best from him again by not pandering to him. His supposed decline is an utter myth.

Camolese in for Orsi at Livorno

Giancarlo Camolese has been unveiled as the new AS Livorno Calcio coach after Fernando Orsi was sacked following a disappointing start to the Serie A campaign by the Tuscan side.

Orsi departed yesterday with the club marooned at the foot of the table after suffering a third successive defeat against Catania Calcio at the weekend, though Livorno chairman Aldo Spinelli admitted it was a difficult decision. "Orsi didn't deserve to be dismissed," he said. "But our fans were really disappointed with the poor results and they think it was his fault." Camolese, 46, will step into the breach and having had previous spells at Torino FC, Reggina Calcio and Vicenza Calcio, he is raring to go. "I'm looking forward to it," said Camolese. "As soon as I can I will put on a tracksuit, go to the training ground and start working with the players." He will have his first taste of action against S.S. Lazio on 21 October.

Just wait some weeks and Daniele Arrigoni will be back
