Always been tempted by Calcio but it never looks appealing enough to buy over other books (i'm not generally a sport book reader).
Hi Nick.

You should give Calcio a read. It may not look the most appetising book, but it is very, very good. I am not a fan of Tim Parks myself (Season with Verona), but his was readable.

My holiday reading is going to be 'The Ball is Round' by David Goldblatt. Unless you can suggest a suitable non-footballing alternative.

I agree.

It became a League Cup now...

What's the official reason for changing the rules like that?

Tbh the Coppa has been meesed about with so much over the years that it will now never work. They should have gone through with how the competition started the past two seasons, with it being single-match, extra-time and penalties, lowest league side at home all the way from Round 1 to the final.

Aye, the good old classic cup format is just the best. All teams start in round one, making it possible for small teams to reach quite long in the tournament

Im bummed that we didn't try that hard last season when it would have been pretty easy to win Serie B and get far in Coppa Italia.

Onto this season and the Chivu saga. Yesterday Chivu was hours away from joining Inter, today Inter close on Chivu, and after Barcelona and Madrid were interested in him this has to be a mess after his agent saying he wants to stay at Roma.

This seasons transfers:

Cassano takes Real to court?
Wednesday 25 July, 2007
Antonio Cassano could be set to take legal action against Real Madrid according to the latest reports in Spain.

The striker was dropped from the Real squad travelling abroad for pre-season training – officially due to injury – and allegedly refused to attend his planned individual session.

After Fabio Capello’s departure, there seems to be no more space left for the Talentino di Bari Vecchia, as new Coach Bernd Schuster doesn’t consider him to be part of his plans at the Bernabeu.

Spanish newspaper AS reports that Cassano is even considering the idea of taking legal action against Los Blancos, as he believes he is being conned by the Liga champions.

Real are reportedly putting pressure on him to rescind his contract by mutual consent. Cassano is currently contracted until 2012 and Real Madrid would have to pay £8.5m if they were to cancel the deal unilaterally.

The player’s entourage denies that there is any truth in the reports from AS, but the ex-Roma man remains up for sale in Madrid, despite the lack of offers for his services.

AS claims that Real Madrid turned down an offer from Turkish side Fenerbahce last week, while the Italian Press insists he could join Fiorentina, who seem to be Cassano’s only chance of a Serie A return.
