Wednesday 25 July, 2007
The draw for the new-look Coppa Italia has been made and Juventus will face Parma in the Third Round.
The tournament has been revamped to try and recapture the public’s attention in the wake of poor attendances and thinning TV audiences.
This year there will be no Serie C sides involved. There will be 42 entrants – every side from the top two tiers – with the first three rounds and the Final being single matches instead of two-legged contests.
Napoli and Genoa will have to play in the First Round as they finished second and third in Serie B last term, but Juventus move straight through to the Third Round.
The Third Round also sees Serie A sides who finished between ninth and 17th enter the fray. The only two clashes already definite see Juve face Parma and Cagliari play Siena on August 29.
Last season’s winners Roma enter the competition in the Fourth Round along with those sides that finished in the top seven in the top flight.
The opening round sees Chievo and Ascoli brought down to earth with ties against newly-promoted Ravenna and Avellino respectively.
The Final will take place on May 24 2008 with a venue yet to be decided.
First Round
Rimini – Frosinone
Treviso - Lecce
Messina – Vicenza
Bari – Albinoleffe
Bologna – Modena
Triestina – Mantova
Piacenza – Spezia
Ravenna – Chievo
Genoa – Grosseto
Napoli - Cesena
Avellino – Ascoli
Napoli – Cesena
Pisa - Brescia
Ties to be played August 15.
| Exciting draw eb=ven though nobody really plays for it. The tie I like is Bologna vs Modena.

I wish they stopped messing around with the Coppa. It was fine(ish) as it was.

At least the fixtures are out before the Serie A ones, plus having the tricolore is special for me as a fan to have on my clubs shirt.

Meh, making the cup only for Serie A and B teams is crap :thdn:. The cool thing about cup tournaments are the games between top teams and amateurs

And what Orzelek said.

Orzelek spot on. Just purchased "Calcio" by John Foot. Really looking forward to reading it. Has anyone read "The Miracle of Castel di Sangro"? Might want that too if it is worth it.

A Season with Verona >>>>>>>>>> Miracle of Castel di Sangro
Always been tempted by Calcio but it never looks appealing enough to buy over other books (i'm not generally a sport book reader).
