Got my copy through from Virgin today. Not bad considering I only ordered it on Monday, and that it's the Limited Edition for only £38.
Initial impressions are excellent. I'm seriously pumped about this game. Spent ages reading through the back story booklet before I played, and that coupled with the first few discussions with NPC's have really made me feel part of a developed universe. More so than any game in ages.
I already feel more emotionally attached to this in the first hour than I have with Bioshock (3/4's the way through that) and one story development in particular reminded me why I love these type of games.
Haven't really got into it properly as yet, but I'll get stuck in tommorow. The graphics do seem lovely, and I think I'm really going to get on with the combat mechanics. I've always been a lover of stat based tactical RPGs, and this seems to marry that with the action element.
From what I've gathered, you essentially play it like a action shooter when approaching enemies (a crosshair appears), but when you actually fire your weapon, your stats determine how accurate your guy is. For someone what's not a fan of FPS', I really like this system. You can direct your party members to run to a specific point, take a position alongside you etc; quite similar to Rainbox Six Vegas. Really looking forward to seeing how the combat works with different weapons and Mass Effect abilities.
The levelling up aspect seems easy. You earn points as you progress, which you can assign to specific abilities. I've started focussing on my pistol and charm skills (which help to unlock better dialogue options). I've been 'auto levelling' the other party members, which is something I tend to do in other games do, so that I feel more like their taking their own path through the game.
All in all, I'm really excited about it. More impressions to follow.
