Just watched Episode 1 of From The Earth To The Moon

Makes you wonder when they would of got the first man on the moon if it wasnt for the Russians beating them to the first man in space. Certainly it pushed any attempt forward so to try and beat them

I went when I was 17, we left about three days before a launch so never got to see one

Dunno about the tickets, you prbably do actually. I know they were saying that at the viewing areas when the sound hits you everything shakes. It sounds immense.

The whole place is amazing though, definitely worth going if you ever get the chance, though I probably don't need to tell you that

The Cold war was fffffb for space exploration. I have an encyclopedia from 86 basically saying they expected the russians to land a man on mars by the end of the century. no chance of that now any time soon.

Shuttle Weather Officer Kathy Winters provided a generally positive outlook for launch day conditions. "Overall the weather is looking pretty good for launch day. We do have a 30 percent chance of weather prohibiting tanking in the morning," she said. "We have a 30 percent chance of weather prohibiting launch." She added, "Generally, pretty good weather when it comes to an afternoon summertime day here in Florida."

I went to KSC as a kid, maybe 8 years old. It was cool, from what I remember. Then a few years later I saw a launch, though we weren't actually close enough to see the launch pad. It was still pretty spectacular, though.

At this morning's Countdown Status Briefing, NASA Test Director Pete Nickolenko said that the countdown began Thursday at noon, six hours earlier than originally scheduled, and was proceeding normally. "All our systems are in great shape, the countdown is right on schedule, and we're tracking no issues." He reported that the payload doors were closed on Thursday, that the pad closeout was set for today and the rollback of the rotating service structure was still on track for 7 p.m. EDT on Saturday.

Shuttle Weather Officer Kathy Winters said launch-day weather was only slightly less favorable, with a 40 percent chance of "no go" because of thunderstorms in the area.

It's good, my favourite episode I think was the one about the LM.

I went to KSC again this year, was pretty good. It was an IMAX presentation by Tom Hanks that inspired the From The Earth To The Moon purchase.

Quite good to see a full sized Saturn V and touch a moon rock! :cool:
