Eve Online Patch Renders User's PCs Unusable.

This is a bit of a PSA to anyone who plays Eve Online. Read this before you go installing the new patch and causing your PC to never boot again.

http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingamebo...hreadID=651679

For the rest of you, due to an unfortunate wayward "/" the new fancy Eve Patch writes over the top of the system Boot.INI file. If the user then restarts their PC, they'll find that their computer will no longer start.

It really is the kind of massive screw up that destroys companies, and CCP aren't big enough to shrug off the potential legal action and stigma that comes from this.

Anyone here get affected?

Some nice/bad quotes:

Quote:
I only Reactivated my account last night after a year break from the game, and the first thing i get for handing over my sub money was for CCP to make sure i cant use my PC.
Ouch.

Quote:
Completely clownshoes development there, CCP.

Where is the software quality assurance? You guys need to hire some testers, who should have some long checklists before software gets pushed out.

Jesus. I've never see a company **** up so badly on an update.
Someone else who uses the word "Clownshoes" \o/

Am firmly of the opinion this only effects users with pirated copies tbh. Stops them stealing food off plates iirc.

reacting to piracy by crashing their computers, is just as much of an offence imo. (and equally prosecutable iirc)

In my opinion, it's not exactly "closing down" that is the issue, more "positional awareness" of players closing down if that makes sense.
