Default Official Digital camera / photography thread.

I couldn't find a thread dedicated to digital cameras / photography at all, so I thought it might be useful to start one…

Maybe some of OTF's more experienced photographers (I'm sure we have a few on here), could answer some of my queries and give me some tips.

Anyway, I really enjoy a bit of photography, and have taken some pretty decent photos over the past few years just using my point-and-click camera. I've gotten plenty of praise from others regarding my 'eye for a picture' and being able to frame a shot well.

I'm definitely thinking of taking the hobby more seriously and want to spend around £200 on a decent digital bridge camera (i.e. not a point-and-click, but not quite an SLR either) and do a couple of courses to help take my technical ability to a decent level…

I think I have settled on getting the Fuji Finepix S9600 which is around £230 - £250. All of the online reviews seem to be good, but I would like some feedback from people who have used it / used other cameras of a similar spec…

Do you think I am going in to high with this spec? My feeling is that buying the most decent camera I can afford will kind of future proof me for a few years, with my skills sort of growing into it…

Last question would be if any of you guys have used any of the following websites… any good / bad experiences?

http://www.shopping4cameras.com/

http://www.cameras2u.com/

http://www.tecno.co.uk/

http://www.pixmania.co.uk/

Cheers lads, lets hope this turns into a useful thread

I used pixmania about 4 years ago when I bought my Casio Exilim S2 for £200. It's not worth £50 now really, so no point future proofing imo

I don't really mean 'future proof' as in holding it's value... I mean as in I'm only just taking up the hobby now, and won't be buying another for a good 4-5 years, so I may as well buy as good as I possibly can.

Even though I won't make use of all the features straight away (as I won't really know how to effectively use them), I will in the future.

Basically I'm just trying to justify buying a camera that's better than my current abillity warrants!

i like to take loads of photos as i travel alot and like to remember but i take most of my photos at parties and festivals etc. having a phone with a decent camera is essential but i also have a Samsung Digimax i6. Its compact and takes good pictures but i do have a question for anyone who is familier with this camera.

does it have a light with it for filming and if so how do i activate it

I actually take very few photos at parties / fesitvals... We have a mate in our group who is our 'social photographer' (i just made that name up, but it kinda sums it up well). He's always snapping away on nights out and gets some pretty good ones.

I love taking photos of scenery and unusual aspects of cities (buildings, traffic, people etc...). Also love doing graffiti which reflects an area's culture as well.

I bought the canon ixus 800is just after christmas from ebuyer, and was really pleased with the delivery, price etc.

Also very happy with the camera.

Used these websites to help me decide - reviews, smaple shots, spec comparisons etc.
Maybe they will help you too?
