My Pics (or some of them anyway) taken from San Sebastian when I was there at the weekend using my Fuji Finepix F31fd.

Its my first real digital camera, so I didn't fiddle about to much with the settings, pretty much all point and click.

Not here yet...

Been at a meeting at work this morning, but been allowed to work from home this afternoon so I can wait in for the delivery. (Thankfully the bloke didn't try to deliver it while I was at work).

I'll post my initial impressions later on tonight. </BLOCKQUOTE>

No information tonight I'm afraid. eBuyer fked up my order and only printed half my address on the package. Got to collect the camera tomorrow

On the plus side I got the chance to send a really snotty email to eBuyer. MON compensation!!

Wow! What swayed you in the end? When you posted this earlier, things didn't look too good for the 30d

talked to my course instructor, told me I'd grow out of a 400d in a year and to get a 30d. They're a bout 500 euro dearer, less meagpixels, no dust cleaning lens, dont' think I'm sold.
What course are you doing by the way?

i done this 8 week course.

http://www.digitalbeginners.ie/digit...nnersnight.htm

He's an excellent instructor and I'm going to go on to the improvers course in August.

What swayed me was reading forums where people were asking the exact same question, it seems to be a pretty hot topic with people buying their first SLR.

Here is a thread I started myself that completely swayed me.

Does anyone know what size card my Canon Ixus 430 could support ?

Right, so the camera is here... got it on Wednesday evening. Only had a little play with it in the flat so can't really comment to much about it...

Initial impressions are that it's a solid, well built and sturdy piece of kit. The barral zoom seems very responsive (obviously this will be tested more when I take it out later on today), and the controls / interface are very user friendly - the position of the control buttons seem very natural to access.

Obviously this is the first time I've had a camera where I can contol aperture and shutter speed etc..., so I've been trying to teach myself a little about their practical uses. Taught myself about apeture the other night using a russian doll in the flat (very low lighting btw) with the following results:

Very small apeture - focuses intensly on the object in the foreground

Large apeture - brings the background into focus as well

Mid-apeture - just for comparason really.

Desperate for someone to tell me I've got this completely wrong!!

I'm definately gonna seek out a evening / weekend course. London College of Arts looks like it has some good ones.

Overall

I'll post some more when I've used it properly!! (Still waiting for my 2gb card to be delivered (only £25!!) - currently using my old 64mb card () which can hold a total of 13 shots on 9mpf!!)

I've added a few pics from the new camera to my flickr.

The three black and white ones of my cat back at home.

Still getting used to it tbh... for instance, the one with her face poking in from the right is too focused on her paw.

Still a fb camera though.

see they look good, will be interesting to see what you get when you actually know how to use it fully

in other news, someone claiming to be from emily haines' management commented on a photo i took of her and wanted a high res copy for something or other, which is nice. odd though, as i didn't think it was all that anyway, and i've seen loads better from the same gig.
