i have been visiting the islands around guernsey this past couple of weeks and trying to take photos with my camera and its got me interested in photography a bit and getting a decent camera with a big fat zoom and stuff.

i was trying to take a picture of sunset behind guernsey from herm (an island 3 miles away) but the sunset bit just never came out and frustrated me.

but i just know my pictures will probbaly be pants. and also my enthusiasm for photography will fade in the coming weeks.

I've had a Nikon D50 for just over a year, which they're replaced now with the D80 and it's one of the best things I've bought in a very long time.

I've got two lenses: an 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 zoom lens and a 35mm f/2D wide angle lens. I'm thinking about buying the 80-200mm VR zoom lens next (if it ever comes back in stock!).

I just bought myself a Nikon D40 the other day from yodobashi camera (what a shop!).

i got the 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens with it. I didnt have enough money to get the VR edition :/

However, the camera is absolutely fb, i`m still a total novice, but i:ve managed to take a few cool pictures and i`ll post them when i get back to the flat.

does anyone have any good links for some recommended photography tutorial websites i can have a browse over?

Well I am getting used to my Fuji s9600 now and it really is a fb camera. went to the British Superbikes last weekend, knowsley safari park yesterday and taking it to newcastle v villa on saturday.

Debating if i should buy myself a flickr pro account as I want to be able to add more sets than the free one allows.

Anyone got any other suggestions of where to upload to? Im not too keen on photobucket.

Here are some of my shots

Since my old camera was stolen, I've just bought myself a Pentax K10D with 18-55mm and 70-300mm lens as well as some other old lenses of my dads.

Its amazing the difference in quality when using a DSLR. The saturation, contrast and colour balance is far better than I've ever acheived before without spending hours on photoshop.

I was looking at the pentax and even went as far as reserving one at Jessops. The only reason I goit the fuji instead was I couldnt afford to get all the lenses I needed at the time. For me the fuji is an amazing piece of kit and is the only camera ever to get a 10/10 rating on the trustedreviewes.com website

thanks. Its bloody hard trying to focus on a bike going well over 100mph! Had so many of either empty track or a blured bike but so glad kept shooting as some of them have come out very well.

If anyone is after a good camera but hasnt got DSLR money, the fuji s9600 is a cracking buy

yeah, sports is one of the hardest. Use the fastest shutter speed you can.

I've not really had the chance to get some good close up pics of sport yet. I site to far up at Celtic Park to get any decent shots
