Tottenham are preparing a last-minute bid for Sporting Lisbon striker Mario Jardel to steal him from under the nose of Rangers, according to a report.
The Daily Express claims the Brazilian is Glenn Hoddle's number one target after being alerted to the fact the player is unhappy in Portugal by the Scottish champions' interest.
Rangers are said to have believed they had agreed a deal for the 29-year-old, but the newspaper reports that deal is now on ice after Spurs' late intervention.
Liverpool, Spurs for South Africa
Posted Wed, 04 Jun 2003
Two of England's most high profile clubs, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are set to play in South Africa against Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in July.
According to kickoff.com, The matches will be played on the weekend of July 26 and 27 and will form part of South Africa's 2010 Soccer World Cup Bid campaign.
Chiefs will face the star-studded Liverpool side on July 26 at Ellis Park and Pirates will play Spurs at Newlands on July 27. For South African soccer this is a massive boost as this will be the ideal opportunity to once again show the rest of the world that South Africa has the infrastructure and ability to stage major events.
For Liverpool and Spurs, it will be the perfect preparation for the English Premiership season that starts in August.
The match against Spurs in Cape Town, will be a huge boost to the city and a just reward for the support Cape Town fans have showed in recent times to revive local soccer in the region.
In the last few months, Cape Town has been under the spotlight hosting two high profile matches — Bafana Bafana vs Jamaica and the Absa Cup final between Santos and Ajax Cape Town. Both of these games were staged at Athlone Stadium.
I have started the game. Within 10 days i had rejected a tempting £10 million transfer bid from Sunderland for The Cook. I had also rejected a transfer request from our prima donna keeper starvin.
Our pre-season campaign was less than impressive (even though we only played 2 games). We lost 1-0 away to Sheffield Wednesday , and drew 1-1 away to Falkirk, the only goal being scored by yours truly. Anyway, now for the season
