Spurs have always had 90% crowds- we've had some awful years but for some reason we all still turn up.
I believe Im probably in the best position to say this being a season ticket holder for some 22 yrs now- even when Spurs dropped down to the old 2nd division we sold out most games.
I know comparing 35,000 to 50,000 is a little unfair, but Sunderlands attendances really shocked me as the general impression is that Sunderland fans are flocking to see them.

You seem to forget that I was a season-ticket holder in the 80's and 90's and I remember what both our gates and your gates were too... and you were not selling out every match then I can assure you!
Arsenal have always edged Spurs in average attendence, even when neither were selling out (ie nothing to do with capacity). I'm not saying our fans are more loyal than yours though - comparisons like that mean very little IMHO. Just like comparisons between WBA and Sunderland or Spurs and Sunderland.

um no, people have got memories that take into account all vidukas seasons. and lets remember phillips first season shall we? quite a few goals there.
and you're kidding yourself if you think you'd get viduka for 4-5m, you'd need to double that. and as perry says, phillips would go for around 6m.

Id say if Leeds were ready to sell Fowler for £8.5m then if Viduka is as bad as some of you suggest then £4-5m for Viduka is reasonable.
I cant see how Sunderland would let Phillips go for £6m- after all they have no reason to sell him, so why let him go at a bargain price? BTW whats his contract situation?

the fact that sunderland could go down, and have a fair bit of debt is a reason to sell him.
and while im not a fan of Viduka, ive no doubt some people would be willing to pay 8-10m for him. Fowlers going for 'cheap' as hes injury prone, and is not needed by leeds atm. Vidukas a regular.

LOL- Spurs stagnant in the mid 80s? Your having a laugh- the eighties were our best period since the 60s!!!
Off the back of 2 FA Cup wins, a UEFA Cup win and the team actually competing for the league title- our attendances were more than we get now. The 80s were brilliant for Spurs.
Retro- back that 24,000 up with facts- also note we rebuilt 2 stands in the early (West) and late 80s (East)- which does mean that 25% of your support cant make games.
As for holier than thou- lmfao.

What? You genuinely think I reckon Arsenal fans are superior to other fans do you? Sure, I'll enter into some banter with Spurs fans and Man Utd fans too - but the real fans don't take it seriously... they know the score.
The 80's attendances are taken from my memory at the time. I remember having an attendances discussion at that time, and I had a season-review book that showed average attendances. I'm not going hunting on the internet or anywhere just to appease you... think of that what you will, I can't say it bothers me much.
I'd give my right testicle for a striker who could actually put away a one-on-one against the goalkeeper. The last player we had who could do that was Klinsmann ffs...
I'd prefer Kev to Viduka if that was the choice, even though Kev is having a plopper this season he's still playing well and always likely to score 15+ a season.
The main difference I'd like to see at Spurs is the aquisition of a new defensive coach to the backroom staff. It's been much better this season (esp with Richards coming into form) but I always feel that we have to score at least 2 goals a match to win.

Also, why the fùck does every Spurs thread turn into a comparison between the attendances of Spurs and Sunderland?

I don't know either. I merely reacted because I felt a Spurs fan calling Sunderland fans 'fairweather' was laughable.
Arsenal have lots of fairweather fans now... but at least I recognise it.

try Mark Lawrenson..we had great success with him as our defensive coach.

Erm I dont remember me ever saying I thought you thought (sic) that Arsenal fans are superior!
As for banter with Arsenal fans- Ive lived in North London all my life, so Ive certainly had to take some stuff on the chin in the last few years- worst being when you guys knocked us out of the League Cup after we'd beaten you 1-0 at Highbury and we're 1-0 up after 15 mins at WHL- School was awful that Monday.
The attendances do bother me- as if im wrong I want to know, as Id rather be proven wrong than go spouting incorrect "facts" in future.

Okay - I don't know if I still have said book at home, but I'm pretty confident my memory serves me right.
I'm sorry but whether Perry started it or not, I feel that its a bit unfair to brand Sunderland fans fairweather that was all. Sure, have a pop at Perry, but its a bit unfair to tar all Mackems with the same brush.
There are often many reasons why attendances drop and looking at raw figures isn't a clear indicator. Arsenal could fill a 60,000 stadium at the moment - BUT would all of those 60,000 be Arsenal fans?? No, we already have a large number of tourist fans prepared to pay top dollar for a one-off ticket. Could we fill a 60,000 stadium with genuine Gooners? Maybe, maybe not - hard to say.
Attendance comparison is a hard thing to justify IMHO - thats my point.
Viduka and Keane wouldn't and never did work, if you're going to play Keane you need a goal scorer whereas most of Vidukas work comes from outside the box. That's why you should go for a Phillips, Fowler or even Jeffers (He can't be Ex Arsenal he's barley kicked a ball for them!), although I do reckon Keane will improve as a finisher given his age, most of the time it looks like a case of him not knowing what kind of finish to try and that'll come with age.
Cant see how our attendances couldve been that bad- Id die for the 00's to be like that!!!!

The book I had was for the 1985-86 season. You have to remember the 80's wasn't a great decade for attendances in general and Arsenal's season wasn't exactly awesome either (Don Howe finally got sacked!).
I am fairly confident that both Arsenal and Spurs attendances were sub 30,000 that season. You may have been building part of your stadium - I can't remember.
But lets face it, it was about £3 to get in wasn't it, and the season ticket was less than £100? Those were the days eh?
