Jesus Christ
Actually, Sunderland aren't in the nationwide yet, despite being relegated - you don't go down mid season. This is an OTF message board on which i'm a member - i can come into any thread i like, just like you can.
Phillips was excellent last season, till he was carrying two injuries at the end of the season and his form tailed off.
That may not have been totally reflected in his goal tally, but then he was also playing in a very poor and negative side and despite that managed 14 goals. Kevin Phillips last season was the main reason we stayed up - you say yours is merely and opinion, you're right it is and it's a wrong one.
Your not going to make Europe - even the most ardent Spurs fans will concede that. You have a chance of signing somoene like Dugarry (maybe), but not Morientes or Rivaldo.
I know yours are only opinions - but we aren't sheep on here, if you talk crap someone will correct you. I have been trying to tell you about Kevin Phillips, as someone who watches him regulary and doesn't just form an opinion of him from newspapers, or when he's scoring freely - just becasue he isn't scorign doesn't mean he isn't playing well. theres mcuh mor eto Phillips than that, had you watched him regulary you would know that - you obviously don't.
Oh and after the season we've had as supporters - do you really think some over excited idiot, shouting 'nationwide' twenty times is going to either wind me up, or make me bite?

Oh by the way, the "hmm, you're consistant aren't you?" remark, was aimed at:
only Durgarry is a realistic target - what was his form like last year or early this
which you didn't answer. I posted that because Dugarry had done little last season, or this and is older than Phillips, who you seemingly wrote off by saying this: "did he hit his peak a few years ago and will only decline from now? unfortunately i think so" |

I believe Phillips is an excellent goalscorer.. n its true wat Perryqhill said bout him.. plus I think that Sunderland must have been totally unlucky to end up like this..
All the crap about Morientes n Rivaldo.. Its like linkin Beckham to Dunfermline.. Im not sayin we (spurs) are crap and incapable of buyin stars.. but its just that our current form has obviously put off such players..

Phillips is the most realistic target for us; seems odd to me that folks still harbour any thoughts of Morientes. Sure, Phillips hasn't set the Premiership alight this season but I'd easily start him over what we've got, i.e. Teddy, Iversen and, ffs, Doherty.

I agree. No matter how few goals he has scored in the last couple of seasons, it's probably more than Doc and Iversen put together and, as far as i'm aware, he doesn't get injured every 5 games. TBH, scoring 9 goals in th Sunderland team that, no offence to Perryqhill, couldn't get in my under-15's side, isn't bad.
However, i think he is too similar to Robbie Keane for them to form a good partnership. I think he is the kind of player that you want playing off Teddy Sheringham. Remember Niall QUinn? If we were to buy a striker, i think it should be someom=ne like Hartson or SWutton at Celtic, so Keane can play off them.
Also, why hasn't Larsson been linked to Spurs yet. He's on a free transfer this summer. Why couldn't we but him?

I don't think Larsson would want to join us; would be a pleasant surprise if he did, but he'd want an Europe-bound team. In a way, however, he seems to also be a bit on the Keano mold and not the strong-in-the-air, out-and-out finisher that we're apparently looking for. We tried to get Hartson under GG but he failed a medical ( ) and Sutton had that little tiff with Hods during his England manager days.

Phillips and Keane would make a crap partnership get it right. We need a target man not 2 similar players.
