I wouldnt buy Phillips. I think we should sign simone like Morientes or Portillo. They have both been linked with us

Phillips hasn't done much recently, and i'd hate for him to turn out like rebrov, i agree with portillo/morientes/hell even bastituta (despte being old, teddy is old too u know) as they have youth (relative and not batigoal) and proven track record....phillips is very patchy, awesome one week, like a traffic cone the next

I'm well aware he hasn't done much recently and hasn't been in the best of form for us this season. I have no idea whether or not he can get back to being the player he was last season, or in previous seasons. But to say he's very "patchy and awesome one week, like a traffic cone the next" is wrong - it smacks of the crap people read in newspapers and believe just because he's not scoring regulary.

Phillips has scored 9 goals in around 33/34 games for us this season, which is around the same strike rate as Craig Bellamy i do believe - to do that in our side is unfùcking believable IMO, as i don't think you fully appreciate just how bad we've been. But what marks him out for me is he's one of only 2 or 3 players to shine for us in the whole season - i honestly think that says something about his quality.

hey i don;t watch sunderland games, there are more exciting things liek watching grass grow....so therefore i look at the stats, number of games played, number of mins played, number of assists, number of goals....fair enough to score 9 for sunderland this year with their team is a fair achievement but how can you prove that he will be able to suddenly come alive when transfered? you can't which is why i am saying. don;t buy buy him

But can you prove that anyone will turn out to be a good signing - you can't

But he certainly has enough quality to do so and being realistic for a moment, you've no chance of getting the likes of Morientes. Phillips is apparantly a long term target for Hoddle (if the press are to be believed) and will be available relatively cheap, he'll be an excellent buy for someone.

True but therefore you have to look at previous track history....and while Phillips' was good a couple of seasons ago this year (and kind of last year as well) he has not been performing enough....did he hit his peak a few years ago and will only decline from now?unfortunately i think so

Morientes is a realistic target if and only if we make european footabll....this will decide whether we sign someone of morientes' caliber (also heard rivaldo had a fight with manager at AC and wants out, another "nearly" signing attempt perhaps?) or whether we will be forced to go second or third string with phillips, dugarry, etc.

See again your talking rubbish when you say "a couple of seasons ago" - he was excellent last season till he got injured towards the end of the season and played on through injurys. Even then he scored 14 goals in a side that finished 4th off bottom (and was lucky to do so) and he was often played up front on his own, isolated from the rest of what was a very poor side even.

You're just not getting it are you? - there's some good players here at Sunderland and none have played really well this season - it's the situation we're in. However the best two have probably being Craddock and Phillips (because they're quality players).

Don't talk crap man - you haven't even got the money to buy or the finances to get the like sof Morientes, nevermind attract them to a club that probably wont be in Europe - who the feck do you think Spurs are?

Out of them only Durgarry is a realistic target - what was his form like last year or early this - err how old is he when you mention "did he hit his peak a few years ago and will only decline from now? unfortunately i think so"

hmm, you're consistant aren't you?

Holy sh!t...chill the fck out you stupid psycho...no need to get all ****y, its merely an opinion and since this is a spurs thread why not go find a nationwide thread where you crappy team is currently located?

Phillips WAS NOT excellent last season despite what you say, he was several seasons ago but he is not anymore....get over it, your player has past it, and so has your club, go back down to the first division

At least spurs have a CHANCE of making europe, goodluck in the nationwide next year.....if we make europe the money will appear, no worries there, reputation counts for a lot, and at least spurs are known overseas, something sunderland will probably never achieve.....

Dugarry is the most likely target i'll agree with you...

"hmmm, you're consistant aren't you" = what the hell are you smoking?

I am sick of hearing you attach my opinions, and remember they are onyl opinions, and everyone is entitled to one and not everyone's is the same, so just chill out, relax and go have fun in the nationwide
