I think Gardner is better than King. He just looks so coooool when he has the ball, he inspires a lot of confidence. At the moment I'd have (if they were fit) Richards, Perry and Gardner in a back three with Ledley to replace Perry when he's back in form & confidence.
We are really going to miss Ziege - we play much better when he's there to give us effective attacking options on the left and his free kicks and corners are very good indeed.
Without him I'd rather have Thatcher and Etherington on the left in a 4-4-2 with Carr and Davies on the right where they work well together. I'd have Redknapp and Anderton in the centre of midfield with Teddy and Keano up front until we have a big, fast centre forward to replace the elder statesman who would still be worth a place if his shooting and passing hadn't gone west with his legs. The biggest problem Spurs have at the moment is accommodating Sheringham - I hope he will take a player/coach role next season with a much reduced playing part - he's a good supersub as he proved against Greece for England and I wouldn't want the club to lose his experience but neither would I want another season of him in the starting line-up.

Do you think Bunje could play as a wing back. The only other options we have for a left wingback are Etherington and Taricco and i'd prefer Etheringotn or Bunje to be there.
Bunje as the ability to play and a good pass and thats why i think he should be in a more attacking role

Problem is that Bunje is so slow that he can't perform a wingback role. He barely coped with being a defensive fullback. He's not suited to sprint up and down the wing for 90 mins.

quote:
Inept Spurs must rediscover pride
By Adrian Curtis, Evening Standard
6 January 2003
Awful, shambolic, spineless, inept, embarrassing, pitiful. Choose any one of these words and it will adequately describe Tottenham's alleged 'performance' in their third round FA Cup tie at St Mary's stadium.
With the possible exceptions of Steve Carr, Robbie Keane and Ledley King, the rest of Glenn Hoddle's side looked as though they just could not be bothered.
I've seen amateur players emerge from the pub and put in more effort and spirit during a Sunday afternoon kickabout than Spurs did against Southampton. Except these are not part-timers having a bit of fun.
Hoddle's men are millionaire superstars who swan around in expensive cars, wear all the best suits and live at the fanciest addresses. Is it too much to ask that they actually work for it?
The alarm bells began to ring loud and clear in the 13th minute when goalkeeper Kasey Keller spilled James Beattie's free-kick and Michael Svensson showed more determination than two Spurs defenders to put the rebound home.
You looked for some sort of reaction from Tottenham's players but there was only a collective shrug of the shoulders - there wasn't a leader in sight. It got worse.
Passes went astray, players argued with each other, and some gave off body language that suggested all is not well behind the scenes. Simon Davies didn't look fit, skipper Teddy Sheringham was off the pace, Gus Poyet hardly got a kick and Steffen Freund looked as though he'd never played in midfield before.
Hoddle changed the system so many times that confusion reigned supreme and the Saints took full advantage. The manager didn't help matters during the interval either. With Spurs still in with a chance at one down, he elected to remove Chris Perry and keep Ben Thatcher on the pitch. Four minutes later with Thatcher now alongside King in a back four, Saints went two-up.
The reason was simply that Thatcher stood so far off Beattie the Southampton striker must have thought he was invisible. His simple pass found Jo Tessem and he beat Keller for number two.
It was men against boys. The third goal was an amazing effort from Anders Svensson who ran from within his own half to score from the edge of box. The Spurs defence? You might well ask.
They were retreating faster than Sheringham's swanky new motor can do nought to sixty and decided that tackling was something only real defenders do.
Finally, after Beattie lashed home number four, the fans took a leaf out of their team's book and gave up. Former Saints boss Hoddle, clearly embarrassed by the display against his old club, tried to find adequate words to explain it all.
How Rupert Lowe, the Southampton chairman, must have chuckled to himself. Another route in Europe has now been blocked off and with their away form such as it is, the fans are likely to face another season-without European football. Hoddle said: "I've not seen us play as poorly as that. I can't explain where that sort of performance comes from. We pride ourselves at this club on the way we pass the ball but it just didn't happen."
"It's a very bitter pill to swallow but we got what we deserved. Credit to Southampton, they played very well and deserved to win.
"I can't express how disappointed I am. There was not enough fire in our belly. There is no doubt we have let our fans down and I can offer no excuses. We must make sure that when we play Everton at home at the weekend we have got this result out of our system. I am feeling sick at the moment because I know we can do better."
Also galling is the continued absence of Sergei Rebrov, a proven Champions League goalscorer apparently not good enough for a place on the bench, and Tim Sherwood, another highly-paid star who sits in the stiffs. Surely they couldn't do any worse than the pampered pussy-cats who pulled on a Spurs shirt against Southampton.
Instead of showing his players a video nasty in training this morning, Hoddle should throw a dictionary at them. The word they should be looking for is pride.

I think spurs need an inspirational player out on the field as they lack inspiration at the moment. They have inspirational players such as Freund and Richards and Carr. But Richards is injured, Freund can start a match inspirationally rallying the rest of teh team but after a goal down he stops. Carr well he isnt that inspirational but always gives 100%. Also Bunje is antoher player to always give 100% each week and thats all you can ask.
Spurs need someone inspiration in their midfield someone to do what Hoddle or Gascoigne done and that was inspire a team. Sherwood can do it but then its hard to say how some of the fans will react after his outburst. Rebrov can be inspirational as we saw when he was at Kiev but without someone who can play upfront with him like Shevchenko did.
Maybe its time Rebrov started again. YOunever know what could happen. He might turno ut to be inspirational

Well i would probaly agree that Carr should be captain but there something abotu him that makes me think otherwise. He's a great player and all that but he can lose his temper and being out on the right im not sure if he is inspirational enough. Redknapp on the other hand could be a great leader. Freund when i saw him against arsenal both games he was always trying to rally the rest of the team but he is a bet hot headed at times.
Also i think we should give a Clemence a chance in the holding role. He can play there and he has done it before. Or maybe we play Clemence has a left wingback he has played there before and i pretty sure he isnt injured

quote:
Originally posted by Glory, Glory, Tottenham Hotspur:

quote:
Spurs have agreed a fee with Birmingham City for the transfer of Stephen Clemence to St Andrews.
Stephen, who has made only one first team appearance this campaign and whose contract expires at the end of this season, will hold talks with City on Wednesday.
"We have accepted an undisclosed offer from Birmingham City and Stephen will travel to Birmingham tomorrow for talks," revealed director of football David Pleat.
The midfielder, who joined the club as a trainee in July 1994 and signed professional forms under a year later, is a graduate of the FA National School of Excellence and made his first team debut in August 1997 against Manchester United.
He has since made 84 senior appearances for the club, but was absent for the opening stages of the current campaign with an Achilles injury sustained in the summer.
