Right so I've come out of the dark ages and purchased an ADSL wireless router (Linksys WAG354G) and a wireless PCI card for my PC (Linksys as well, can't recall the make).

Installed it pretty easily and can connect to the router but I can't seem to connect to the Interweb as everything seems to complain about firewalls. Now I only run the Win XP SP2 firewall so I'm not sure I get what is going on here. To make matters more weird I can connect to the Internet if I use a ethernet/LAN cable to connect to the router but that isn't really what I want to do as that kind of defeats the whole wireless object.

Any clues? Using AOL as my ISP which could be part of the problem tbh, but I assume I wouldn't be able to get an Internet connection at all either wireless or over LAN if the router couldn't communicate with the ISP properly, right?

Oh yeah, there is a firewall setting on the router config as well, I disabled this but still no joy. Is it worth disabling the Win XP firewall temporarily as well to see if that allows me to connect just to rule out any of the firewalls I'm aware of? Also, is there anything that might need to be reconfigured on the wireless adapter that could be causing the problem here?

Any help much appreciated.

argh, my wireless is just frustrating me no end, repeated dropouts and it just refusing flat out to find my network. Other machines on it are fine, just this one, are there any settings hiding anywhere that I should look at to make it work?

How far away are you from the router Juni and any walls between router and pc?

Whats the current channel set to on the router? Also run "ipconfig/all" and post in here.

Is it a lappy or pc you got? If pc then you may want to look into investing in a high gain antenna for the wireles pci card.

Is wireless encryption setup on the router? i.e. WEP or WPA. Did you input the wireless settings from the router onto the wireless adapter, i.e. wireless SSID.

On one of your housemates computers, click 'Start' -> 'Run' and enter without quotes "cmd" and hit 'Ok'. when dos window pops up enter without quotes "ipconfig/all" and post result in here. You may have to manually enter an IP address for you pc.
