| If you mean the wireless range, then i wouldn't worry about it because you could connect to the router from the otherside of your street so the range is long enough. How strong the wireless signal will be is a different matter and boils down to things like where the router is placed, the thickness of walls in your house.

hey Los a question
just bought my little sister a pc and wanted to hook her up to the net.
ive read the whole thread but im generally not keen on the wireless route if i can help it, because i dont fancy fancy opening up 2 pcs to put the wireless cards in. are these any good?
id rather use these since, were not likely to get a laptop any time soon, and te pcs are hardly gonna go anywhere.

should be yes mate, if you have adsl.
the network cards are pi$h easy to install though, just putting them in an empty slot really as simple as that.
Have got a question regarding my router too. Recently i have noticed that my signal strength hasn't been to great on either 2 of the desktops, has this got anything to do with the placement of my router? Where is the best place to put it?

| Yep those are meant to be good, Kris uses them and has said they are good and i'm planning on getting them myself.
Do you have a router already? If not then you'll require one. Also check that all pc's in your house have an ethernet port.
If you don't already have a router like i mentioned then you'll need one, your broadband connection is it ADSL or cable (i.e. NTL)?

| Can't really tell you the best place to place your router, this is one that you'll have to figure out. Just don't have the router under desk, try and get high gain antenna's for your desktop pc's as the ones that come with the wireless cards are generally strong enough especially when the pc is on the floor or underneath a desk. Antenna's with cable that allow you to mount them on the wall or place on desk are ones to get.

i used to have big trouble in my old house with a wireless router. and i'm putting it down to the fact that the router was in the corner of the living room (by the phone point and tv) and the pc was upstairs in a room not directly above the living room.
placement is quite crucial i believe, as walls/ceilings affect transmitting power i think.
