and if you have issues with this good stuff then more people will be able to help as mainstream equipment has more support.

I must apologise for getting wound up, but Ive spent the best part of 6 weeks sorting out one wifi network because the user insists on the cheapest stuff.

He couldve solved it with an extra £40 initial investment.

Instead Ive billed him over £600 to date as he still wont take my advice.

Incidentally, one of the other reasons I recommend linksys is that you can expand their wifi range with a £40 bit of kit. So if you have a large house, why pay for 2 x routers (which wont work anyway as Ive mentioned, youll need a switching subnet access point which is gonna be £150+) when you can spend £40 on a linksys range expander.

For me?

£50-60

I want the following from the router

1) a good brand name, linksys/cisco, draytek, dlink, 3com, netgear, Intel.
2) a good range, ideally with the ability to add "expanders" or repeaters as us techies call them. Only Linksys/Cisco offer this to my knowldge
3) Easy setup, this would limit me to the above and even then Id remove Dlink from it because of their necessary firmware flash upgrades
4) Compatabilty - you should be looking for at least 11 and 54mb/s compatability. Bear in mind that your internet connection will never ever go beyond 11mb so even the basic wifi is fine.
5) Stability, a router stability is a core requiremnet, else you'll be powering it off every day. The case Ive just mentioned I could have resolved in 10 mins with a draytek router for an extra £90. But they didnt want that so theyve just paid me an extra £110 for 2 hours work to get 3 of 5 laptops talking to it.

So

1.Get the linksys router you mentioned.
2.Get the cards you need.
3. *BEFORE* you pay for this, email me with the stuff you want to buy and Ill personally check what issues you may encounter
4. Buy it.
5. If you have problems, then the more popular the kit the better we can offer help.
