Can you tell me though, whether I have to create a network and then link my other pc's upto this network. Or whether I just install the pci card and router onto each PC then just connect to the router without having to network the 3 pc's together?

No no, no need to create a network to connect your pc's to. once your 3 pc's are connected to the router then you have a network.

I remember installing a usb adapter and a bluetooth modem for a dial up connection about 5 years ago, would doing this be pretty much the same? All I had to do then was install the 2 devices and pair them together and connect to the net with them.
