Hyypia wasn't a big name before he came to Liverpool and he was immense.
That midset will get you absolutely nowhere.

It won't work if you want to be a top club to buy maybes. They might turn out good, but there is no way you take chances like that.
If they turn out bad it's another year wasted and a player wasted.
Gonzalez is a perfect examples why buying maybes is bad if you wanna win now.

If we have to sign a top name player, then I'm happy, but I would not be disappointed with a player who was not a "big name" who performed well for us.

Rubbish. Ronaldo was a maybe and United are taking a risk again in Nani and Anderson. They were quality in Portugal but English football is different and thats a risk United are willing to make. Ronaldo was a risk and he turned out great.

Same with Hyypia.

Yes we need established quality but football is all about taking risks. Owen was a risk, Hyypia was a risk, Crouch was a risk and they turned out great

Morientes was a proven goalscorer with a great record at different clubs. He just didn't work out for us.

There are plenty of "big name" signings that have turned out to be flops at top clubs. Cisse was supposed to be a dead cert for us as a good goalscorer.

Biscan and Litmanen were good players, constantly played out of position and not really given a chance by Houllier in their natural positions.

We need players who will do well with our style of play. Not all of them will be big names

Flabarama and LiveRu, how have you come to the conclusion that Spearing's never going to make it, given he's only 18? FM, I daresay?

Ballack and Shevchenko were also instant hits in these here shores.

Not to turn this into a Cisse debate, but to be fair he had a pretty good goalscoring record.

Hahaha, this is so going to sound like a Football Rumours quote, but i was just chatting to a guy at work here, who had Paul Merson round for a bbq the other week, and he says that this coming season is going to be Wengers last at Arsenal, and Henry has been told this, and Henry wants to stay in England, so a Henry to Liverpool deal is close to happening.

x 1 billion.

The majority of the goals he scored were against poor teams who we should have beaten more convincingly
