Agreed, but at the same time If we could convince charlton to sell him for about £12m I reckon he'd be a decent signing. Whether he's what we need for a title challenge though is yet to be seen.

agreed, but then again, he doesn't have the likes of beckham, guti, raul and robinho whipping crosses to his head, or playing him in with perfect throughballs.
I know it's a tiresome arguement, but it's something you can't deny. not saying that justifies his £17m price tag though. the market has gone silly.

look, darren bent is hardly an improvement on bellamy, let alone the kind of signing we need.

I was going to include that about Bellamy. The main problem I see is that at Charlton Bent got alot of goals because he was the center of the team. All there passes went to him, giving him a greater chance to score. Like Owen for us under Houllier. Or Bellamy for blackburn.

that's a good point. bent was the sole focus of the charlton attack and his game's based around two things: pace and a decent shot.
he's great at playing on the counter in a time that can't maintain possession. he's probably not so great at working hard to keep possession in the final third. it's integral to our style of play under benitez that our strikers have the ability to keep the ball, pull defenders out of position and exploit the spaces they create with quick passes or runs. kuyt does it, bellamy does it, crouch is great at it.
for me, darren bent has never shown the vision, awareness or speed of thought possessed by all of our strikers. he's great at running in behind or getting on the end of chances, but if that's all we need from a striker we might as well pick up owen for just over half the price. he needs to be a lot cleverer and a lot more tactically astute for me.

Bent is better than Bellamy.
Actually tbh, why can't we just sign Ruud for around 8 million and partner him up front with Tevez. *druels*

| I'm not going to judge Bent, seeing as I did with Crouch when we first signed him. He's now, in my eyes, a very good striker.
But I do agree that the £17m price tag is tremendously ridiculous. Like you said befoe JK, we might as well pick up Little MO for a fraction of the price.
