Why is it that on CM 01/02, the big teams dont keep signing players and just end up greyed out? Does this happen for everyone? Does it lead to it being easy to win the CL all the time?

Never happens for me. And I also find some of the "lesser" european teams like Anderlecht get some fb youth players through, so even the group stage becomes difficult | |

I see, I remember Galatasaray getting to the latter stages and having no 'real' players. Still beat me though.

just finished my first season with Chelsea. 4th in Premiership and UEFA Cup winners 
Not bad, that's on the original pre-Abramovich 01/02 data when you still have squad players like Slavisa Jokanovic
