okay, the one positive is that at least he's prepared to base himself here. which probably had to be a stipulation to all but the very highest calibre of managers i guess...

If it came down to Troussier and Verbeek. I don't know much about either of them. So I will trust the judgement of whoever made the decision.
I think it was a good choice to go for someone who knows Asia and who is based in Australia permanently. I don't think going for a big name European manager would have worked. You probably need someone who is immersed in the region, not someone who will travel in irregularly.
Hopefully he will work well with Rob Baan. Baan would have reasonable knowledge of Australian football by now, which will help out with team selection. But also he seems to be the one restructuring the game at grassroots level so it is good if they have a close relationship.

I wouldn't call it rushed - it's been 18 months since we've had a manager actually appointed to the role, rather than just in an acting position. The qualifiers are not that far away, and the manager must get used to the A-League players. Apparently he's coming down to Australia this weekend, which is a good start.

Well, at least we have a manager now, unlike South Korea who are still looking for one now that Gerard Houllier and Mick McCarthy have both rejected the offer to manage South Korea.

our team:
schwarz - had an excellent game, made one of those career highlight saves that simply was unbelievable. the ball bounced around in the box, nigerian shot, it took a couple of deflections, finally bounced off lucas neill seemingly on its way in. schwarzer who was diving the other way seemed to just change direction almost in mid air, stuck out a hand and somehow finger tipped it over the bar. | It's obviously not the same Schwarzer who is currently playing for Boro then.

oh and ... bring back frank farina, for the sole reason that he will play zullo and kruse in the national team.
| It's really not too bad a group. China are rubbish. Possible the worst second seed after Kuwait. Iraq are good but I don't know how they've been playing lately. Qatar shouldn't be a problem. With your European-based players you would qualify with ease. Not sure about your A-league ones though. And of course June games could be big problem.
