Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile
On the signing of Jason Arnott…
“This time last year we had the biggest signing in our history which was Paul Kariya, and today we announced what I would say is arguably the second biggest in Jason Arnott. There is no question that the missing part on this team was a No. 1 center, and a big strong, physical one at that. At 6-4 220 pounds, Jason Arnott is the player we needed to get to the next level. Honestly, I am very excited and very surprised that he is with us. Although in our preparation we mentioned his name many times, we didn’t think this was going to happen. But, this picked up last evening, I got to talk to him and tell him our story and what we had available to him. When I got to listen to what he was looking for, we realized that we had a match. We are a much better team today than we were yesterday with Jason Arnott as our No. 1 center.”
Second biggest signing ever? Can't say I remember a lot about Arnott, but I've not been following closely lately...anyone help me out with some opinions?

At his peak, a top two line centerman with strength and tons of grit, probably capable of a point a game, dunno which wingers he'll play with but Nashville are talented there so it'll help him as much as he helps them, and he's money in the playoffs. Nice pickup.

Billy Guerin too.

We may ACTUALLY have some offense this year.

Praying for Shanahan to come home still.

John Davidson, former Rangers color commentator for 20 years, has lost his mind. Perhaps all those years he spent criticizing the youth while allowing the veterans to get away with mistake after mistake he wasn't just shilling for the Dolans. Does he really believe that signing Guerin and Weight (and perhaps Shanny) will actually make the Blues a viable club next year? Look at what happened to Boston and Pittsburgh last offseason. They were also slated to be real contenders. Boston failed, even with guys like Samsonov and Joe Thornton in the lineup. And Pittsburgh once again earned themselves a top 2 selection. What J.D. should do is concentrate on building from within and nurturing the youth - the good thing about the Guerin deal is that it is only for 1 season....cause he is washed up IMO.
