| Upscaling.

Herman - exactly correct xbox 360 you would think would be a very low end hd-dvd player. Were you using a high end dvd player previously?

He won't see a massive difference upscaling, because that's not really high def. The PS3 is a very good upscaler but if i'm playing standard def media through it, it's not going to look much better (if at all) than my best DVD player.
However, actually playing high definition media (HD HDVDs/Blu-Ray) is kinda the only way you can compare. I can stick the best looking film in my collection in my expensive DVD player, output it at 1080i and it won't look anywhere near as good as a Serenity/King Kong on my low end HD DVD player.
Can't use upscaling as a judgement really. It's a bonus feature, not a core one.

Willy - I've been using a £150-ish DVD player in the past. Not top of the range, but not a £20 job from Tesco either.

projectors are a great way to highlight the difference between dvd and high def. boost a dvd picture up to 10' and see the halos, jaggies and other artifacts. now watch a high def film on the same screen and see the difference.

You can tell the difference on a 26" tv never mind a projector. I remember comparing Goodfellas and couldn't believe how godawful the DVD version looks. Same with comparing some of the combos as well.
Gonna save up for a 1080p projector. Only need another £1400 although they do seem to be coming down in price at a decent rate.

Just ordered this HD camcorder yesterday, for a trip to Hawaii next week. Can't wait for the thing to arrive. Just need an HDDVD/Blue Ray player to be able to bore people with my films then |

| i'm happy with the performance from 720p for a couple of years until 1080p projectors hit more reasonable prices then I'll upgrade.

Sharp have a 42 inch LCD 1080p model LC42XD1E for £1050 which looks great value.
I will keep my tv for a year and then will look for something bigger 46-60 inches.
