Bad News for Tigers, *Spotg* Injured
Dan *Spotg* had to leave the Tigers game against Tampa Bay after suffering a strained elbow ligament while throwing a pitch. He will be out of the lineup at least 4 weeks. He told SION reporters, "I just felt a sharp pain when it happened. I knew there was something wrong."

Saturday, March 6th, 2010:
Kansas City, Minnesota Deal Stars
After putting the finishing touches on a blockbuster deal, the Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins toasted their success earlier today. The deal involves 25-year old starting pitcher Francisco Liriano, who joined the Royals in exchange for 21-year old first baseman James *Marshall*.

In his 266-game career *Marshall* is batting .361 with 345 hits, 77 home runs, 262 runs scored and 223 RBIs.

In his career Liriano has fashioned a 46-15 mark, 3.41 ERA and thrown 544 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .235 lifetime against him and he has logged 597 career strikeouts.

Saturday, April 10th, 2010:
Braves Lose Chris *Porter*
A blow for Chris *Porter* today -- team doctors confirmed he will miss 2-3 weeks with a strained tricep tendon. *Porter* suffered the injury throwing a pitch. Although officials from the Atlanta Braves are confident he'll make a full recovery, doubts will persist about *Porter*'s ability to return fully fit this year with an injury of this nature.

Monday, April 12th, 2010:
*Marshall* Selected Player of the Week
James *Marshall* went on a week-long hitting streak against American League pitchers and captured the Player of the Week honors.

Thursday, April 15th, 2010:
Jonno *Blood* Suffers Injury
After the end of today's game between Tampa Bay and Chicago, Jonno *Blood* skipped the clubhouse and headed straight for the doctor's office. After he was removed from the game as a precaution after colliding with a player at a base, the Devil Rays had their worst fears confirmed when it turned out to be more serious. The second baseman will miss at least 2 weeks with a pinched nerve (neck).

Thursday, April 15th, 2010:
Medic! Daniel *Boskovic* Suffers Injury
The Colorado Rockies will have to "make do" without Daniel *Boskovic* for 1-2 weeks. He suffered a finger blister while throwing a pitch in the game today against the San Francisco Giants. His teammates, understandably, were upset about losing the starting pitcher. "That's a real blow," one of them said. "But this team is resilient. Tuesday, April 20th, 2010:

I just hope it heals soon and I can get back on the field."

Friday, April 23rd, 2010:

Monday, April 26th, 2010:
This Week's Star Player is *Keurulainen*
This week's best performer in the National League was third baseman Gene *Keurulainen* of the St. Louis Cardinals. He slashed out a .462 average and was voted the Player of the Week. Friday, April 30th, 2010:
Seattle's *Toner* Injured
"I'm frustrated right now," said Seattle center fielder Gary *Toner*. "I can't help this team by sitting on the bench or in the training room." Unfortunately for the Mariners, that's where he will be spending the next 2 weeks. *Toner* suffered a blurred vision into today's game against Cleveland while making a defensive play. "Believe me," he said, "I won't be out a day longer than I have to be."

Saturday, May 1st, 2010:

I recommend you choose Washington. We are one solid player away from challenging for the World Series. We could mainly use a pitcher, but you'll do fine. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Whoops, a bit late to this post...can I still join Washington?

Saturday, May 1st, 2010:
Pittsburgh and Washington Agree to Deal
The Pittsburgh Pirates have finalized a deal with the Washington Nationals for the services of 22-year old right fielder Ricardo Márquez. In exchange, the Nationals will receive 22-year old left fielder Josh *Bada*.

*Bada* is hitting .270 in 2010. He has added 14 RBIs and 2 home runs and has gotten on base at a .303 rate.

Thus far this year Márquez is batting .319 with 2 home runs, 5 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He has 29 hits in 91 at-bats, 10 walks and a .386 OBP. Márquez has played in 21 games.

Monday, May 3rd, 2010:
AL Names Top Player of the Week
Toronto sports fans can't stop singing the praises of Michael Danger *North*, who has been selected the American League Player of the Week.

*North* was in a comfort zone all week, finishing with a .593 average (16-27), 18 RBIs and 5 home runs.

Friday, May 7th, 2010:
5-Hits Blitz by Minnesota's *Marshall*!
On top of the Minnesota hit parade today was James *Marshall*. He went to the plate 5 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Twins to victory 7-0 over the Kansas City Royals. He certainly had their number at the plate in this record-making 5-5 performance.

The sweet swinging first baseman told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."

The skipper of the Royals wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."

J. *Marshall* singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off R. Japa in the 8th.

Monday, May 10th, 2010:
*Giddy* on a Hot Streak, AL Player of the Week
Jimmy *Giddy* went on a week-long hitting spree against American League pitchers and captured the Player of the Week honors.

The Oakland first baseman battered the opposition for 13 hits, 4 home runs, 8 RBIs and scored 8 runs. He hit .464 and posted a .531 on-base percentage.

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010:
SP *Carter* Extends Deal with Atlanta
Sportswriters and pundits hailed Atlanta's signing of Nick *Carter*, one of Major League Baseball's brightest stars, as a pivotal move.

While the deal is certain to raise a few eyebrows, *Carter* is expected to earn every bit of the $15,100,000 promised him over 2 years.

Monday, May 24th, 2010:
*Sikora* Picked NL Player of the Week
Dominik *Sikora* of the Colorado Rockies had an award-winning week and today was voted the Player of the Week by the National League.

The 21-year-old shortstop put up some solid numbers:

.545 batting average, 3 home runs, 12 hits in 22 at-bats, 10 RBIs and 8 runs.

Thursday, May 27th, 2010:
C *Bartholomew* Re-Signs with Pittsburgh
Iain *Bartholomew* might be greedy, but there's no disputing his talent. The hotshot catcher will pocket $30,540,000 after re-signing with the Pirates earlier today, and will hang around another 3 years.

Some more financially prudent fans worried that the signing would burden the club down the road and might prevent it from being competitive, though many others were simply thankful that *Bartholomew* didn't bolt.

Thursday, May 27th, 2010:
Gary *Toner* Hurt, Out of Action
Gary *Toner* of the Seattle Mariners was injured in today's game against Oakland and had to be helped off the field by the trainers. The initial diagnosis is a strained medial collateral ligament and he is expected to be out up to 3-4 weeks. It happened while *Toner* was running the bases. "It hurt a lot, to be honest. I just hope it heals soon and I can get back on the field."

Monday, May 31st, 2010:
Best Player Award Caps Great Week
National League pitchers tried and tried all week long to stop Iain *Bartholomew*, but to no avail. His eyes would light up when he came to the plate and he hit everything in sight, batting .500 for the week to win the NL Player of the Week Award. The Pittsburgh catcher cracked 11 hits in 22 at-bats, 5 home runs, drove in 7 runs and scored 9 times.

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010:
*Burrage* Garners AL Batter of the Month Award
The Batter of the Month honoree for May in the American League is Cleveland Indians shortstop Peter *Burrage*.

He showed no mercy as he finished up the month with a .429 batting average, 11 home runs, 36 RBIs and scoring 30 runs.

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010:
NL's Best Batter Picked
Colorado shortstop Dominik *Sikora* was certainly bad news for pitchers in the month of May. He wore them out going 35 for 95 and was rewarded with the National League Batter of the Month award.

He hit .368 with 7 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 29 runs

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010:
NL Top Pitcher Award for May to *Boskovic*
Daniel *Boskovic* was firing on all cylinders in the month of May with 4 wins as he steamrolled all National League opposition on his way to the Pitcher of the Month award.

Last month *Boskovic* chalked up these stats:

4-1 record, 2.66 ERA, 7 GS, 50.2 IP, 45 HA, 7 BB, 39 K, .234 OBA.
