Friday, August 1st, 2008:
NL Choice for Batter of the Month is *Sikora*
While great performances sometimes go unrecognized, this will not be the case for Dominik *Sikora*, who's walking away with the National League Batter of the Month award for his great work with the stick in July.

The Colorado shortstop hit .420 with 7 home runs, 26 RBIs and 32 runs scored.

Friday, August 1st, 2008:
*Burrage* Wins AL Prize, Named Best Hitter in July
The premier hitter in the American League in July was Cleveland shortstop Peter *Burrage*. For his standout play, he was voted the Batter of the Month. *Burrage* completed the month with these award-winning stats:

Jonno *Blood* and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays got a bad break in today's game against the Tigers as the team confirmed he will miss one week with a bruised wrist. Friday, August 8th, 2008:
Bad News for Cleveland, *Burrage* Hurt
Peter *Burrage* of the Cleveland Indians was injured in today's game against Minnesota and had to be helped off the field by the trainers. The initial diagnosis is a fractured finger and he is expected to be out up to 2 weeks. It happened while *Burrage* was being hit by a pitch. "It hurt a lot, to be honest. I just hope it heals soon and I can get back on the field."

Gene *Keurulainen* of St. Louis Injured, DTD
Gene *Keurulainen* of the St. Louis Cardinals is probably going to miss a day or two as a result of a strained back muscle that doesn't seem to be getting better quickly.

"I feel okay. Not one hundred percent, but I can go if the team needs me," the St. Louis star performer said.

The team physician has said *Keurulainen*'s time off will be about 1-2 weeks or until he can play without pain, but a trip to the disabled list is not likely.

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008:
DTD Injury Puts *Carter* Out of Lineup
It's a long season and everyone picks up some cuts and bruises along the way. The latest star to be suffering this year is Nick *Carter* of the Atlanta Braves, who suffered a tender shoulder while throwing a pitch in yesterday's contest against Philadelphia. While he could play through the injury, it's unclear whether or not the Atlanta organization will risk that or simply sit him out for the 1-2 weeks the injury is expected to last.

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008:
5-Hits Blitz by *Toner*
It was a big day with the bat for Gary *Toner* of the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Baltimore 10-5.

To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today -- Bingo! -- 5 hits in 5 tries! But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."

At the end of the game *Toner* had collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Mariners had won.

The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.

G. *Toner* hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 2nd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

Monday, September 1st, 2008:
*Toner* Named AL Batter of the Month
Gary *Toner* is on a tear! After posting a .404 average in August, the Seattle center fielder took home the American League Batter of the Month award handed out earlier today.

He cracked 38 hits with 6 home runs and 21 RBIs, and he scored 22 runs. The 20-year-old also collected 18 free passes to post a .504 on-base percentage.

Monday, September 1st, 2008:
*Boskovic* Snags NL Top Hurler Trophy
Last month's cream of the crop was Daniel *Boskovic* of the Colorado Rockies. He captured the National League Pitcher of the Month award for his mound performance in August.

*Boskovic* started 6 games, threw 43.2 innings and logged a 4-1 record. He put down 41 batters on strikes, walked 8, and compiled a 2.47 ERA. Enemy batters hit .205 against him.

Monday, September 1st, 2008:
*Sikora* Selected NL's #1 Rookie
