The latest star to be suffering this year is Nick *Carter* of the Atlanta Braves, who suffered a tender shoulder while throwing a pitch in yesterday's contest against Philadelphia. While he could play through the injury, it's unclear whether or not the Atlanta organization will risk that or simply sit him out for the 1-2 weeks the injury is expected to last.

5-Hits Blitz by *Toner*
It was a big day with the bat for Gary *Toner* of the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Baltimore 10-5.
To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today -- Bingo! -- 5 hits in 5 tries! But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."
At the end of the game *Toner* had collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Mariners had won.
The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.
G. *Toner* hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 2nd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
