Major League Baseball News: Opening Day
The long awaited and much anticipated Opening Day of baseball is finally here!! For both fans and teams, hope always springs eternal. The proverbial "next year" is finally here! For better or worse, we'll find out what all the offseason management moves, manipulations and changes in personnel will bring. So, break out the peanuts and crackerjacks, sit back, sip on a tall cool one, and "GET READY FOR SOME BASEBALL"!!!

Thursday, April 10th, 2008:
Hit Parade, *Bartholomew* Gets Cycle
It was a special day for Iain *Bartholomew*. He hit for the cycle, belting out every kind of hit there is in a baseball game -- single, double, triple, home run. The Pittsburgh catcher accomplished the rare feat during his team's 11-6 victory over the Washington Nationals.

He told the SION reporters at the postgame press conference, "I never even thought about hitting a cycle and whatta you know, I did it. The cycle really doesn't matter to me, it is the 4 hits and the win that are important. But I guess it will be nice to see my name listed in the record book."

*Bartholomew* went 4-5 in the game.

I. *Bartholomew* hit a two-run home run off J. Patterson in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit an RBI triple in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.

Saturday, April 12th, 2008:
*Boskovic* Wins, Whitewashes Atlanta
According to Daniel *Boskovic* of the Colorado Rockies, "There are three important elements in pitching success: location, location, and location." He told his pitching philosophy to sportswriters in the postgame interview after his 1-0 victory over Atlanta.

He blanked them on a 6-hitter, allowed 1 walk and had 12 strikeouts. "I really felt comfortable the whole game," *Boskovic* said.

His manager echoed his comments, saying, "He hit his spots time and time again."

Monday, April 14th, 2008:
NL's #1 Player, *Bartholomew* of Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Iain *Bartholomew* walked away with the National League Player of the Week Award today after putting up some impressive numbers over the past seven days.

"The Pirates fans are really behind me right now," said the 20-year-old. "That helps. They give you the confidence to go out there and do better."

*Bartholomew* batted .600 (12-20) with 5 home runs and 13 RBIs this week on his way to the award.

Monday, April 14th, 2008:
*Haz* on the Attack, Player of the Week
When it came to hitting the baseball, *Haz* was in a class by himself in the American League this past week. Nobody did it better. The outstanding first baseman for Kansas City tagged opposing pitchers for a .471 average and was voted the Player of the Week Award. Included in his stats were 8 hits in 17 at-bats, 4 homers, 6 runs scored and 9 RBIs.

Monday, April 28th, 2008:
AL's #1 Player Named
Jonno *Blood* of Tampa Bay was a smashing success this week, winning the Player of the Week Award in the American League. He hit everything the pitchers threw at him, hammering them for a .423 batting average, going 11 for 26 with 5 home runs, 13 RBIs and scoring 7 times.

Thursday, May 1st, 2008:
*Bartholomew* Snags NL Batting Honor in April
April's National League Batter of the Month trophy was claimed by catcher Iain *Bartholomew* of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Last month he compiled a .373 batting average with 8 home runs, 19 RBIs, 22 runs scored and a .488 on-base percentage.

Thursday, May 1st, 2008:
AL Choice for Batter of the Month is *Blood*
Jonno *Blood* of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays had a field day with American League pitchers last month and was crowned the Batter of the Month as a result.

During April he compiled a .438 batting average, drove in 28 runs and scored 26 times. He also managed to pick up 9 walks to post a .484 on-base percentage.

somewhat of a better start for KC this season. Modesty prevents me from taking any more than 99% of the credit.
