So the Open Cup winner gets nowt? Is there no Sudamericana qualification this year?

Open Cup title gets you **** all. Which is a shame, because that competition really needs something to punch up its importance. The US Open Cup competition is older than the NFL and NBA, but it gets no publicity at all. There have been finals lately with barely 5000 attendance.
For a brief time (like 1 or 2 years) CONCACAF had a second-tier competition (like the UEFA Cup) that the Open Cup winner got entry to. Would be nice if that happened again, but I wouldn't count on CONCACAF to do anything. </BLOCKQUOTE>
there's a reason for that </BLOCKQUOTE>
Poverty, of course. Well, that and all the dollars that have to be directed to Jack Warner's pockets. </BLOCKQUOTE>
I was thinking more along the lines of embarrassment when the minnesotas, rochesters and charlestons knock the "superior" mls teams out of the cup </BLOCKQUOTE>
You mean like when the Crewes, Brightons and Peterboroughs knock the "superior" EPL teams out of the cup?
(Or when the Bradleys, Bucknells and George Masons knock the "superior" power conference teams out of the NCAA tournament?)
Son, how many times in the last 10 years has an MLS team *not* won the Open Cup? </BLOCKQUOTE>
don't be disingenuous. you know as well as I do the number of "we don't take it seriously" and "we didn't field our best squad" excuses that pop up when a few mls teams flame out year after year. without the same history, the mls teams have never been as sanguine about going out to a lower league team than in england. it challenges mls's primacy, and they hate that.
