a PR ISlanders fan on the USL boards has some potentially exciting news on the proposed PR-River Plate team.

http://www.usldiscussions.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=ge...;t=003061;p=3#000059

Daly also posted the except above from an open letter from Sr. Alvarez stating that the everything is in motion for RPPR to begin playing in the USL in 2007 except the Islanders current opposition to them joining the league. The Islanders have to waive their USL territorial rights in a good faith effort in the best interest of soccer and it's growth in Puerto Rico. The excerpt indicates that the Islanders, via Club President, Andres Guillemard have already yielded those rights, thus removing what was an undoubtedly daunting obstacle to RPPR's participation in the USL First Division.

Yeah, 1836 Houston would sound better.

1836 is obviously because it was a very important year in Texas independence War from Mexico.

It's actually because it's the year the city of Houston was founded. Either way it works to connect to the city's past.

I think the name is ace, and that it sounds better as "Houston 1836", rather than "1836 Houston".

Apparently some of the Mexican community are OUTRAGED though because of the Texas independence issue.

Maybe they should compromise and call the team Houston 2-0.

If the Mexican community is outraged by the name Houston 1836, wait until their supporters start singing "There's only one Tom Tancredo."
