United Soccer Leagues has announced the format for the 2006 USL First Division College Player Draft, to be held on Tuesday, January 24th. The Draft will be conducted via conference call at 3pm ET and will consist of two rounds of 12 picks, with each team receiving one selection per round.
The draft order was determined by ranking teams in reverse order of their 2005 regular season finish with expansion franchise Miami FC receiving the first pick in both rounds.
The order is as follows: Miami FC (expansion franchise), Toronto Lynx, Virginia Beach Mariners, Minnesota Thunder, Charleston Battery, Atlanta Silverbacks, Puerto Rico Islanders, Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders, Vancouver Whitecaps, Rochester Raging Rhinos, and Montreal Impact. The second round order will be the same as the first.
Only college seniors, other college players with no remaining college eligibility, or college or high school players that have expressed in writing that they are forgoing their remaining years of eligibility are eligible to be drafted.
