Everyone knew appointing Roeder was the wrong decision, much like everyone knew appointing Souness was the wrong decision. However as much as we'd like, we don't run the club so our opinion, unless in massive ranks, means diddly squat to the fat man upstairs.

Again Neil - if Roeder was told by Shepherd that you are getting X&Y (Duff and Martins) as his cash buys, what else could he do ? If Shepherd was indeed incharge of who we bought, then where was the point in having a manager ?

I still reckon that Roeder earned his chance of a go with the run we went on at the end of 2005/06. Problem was - it seems that no manager could do their job properly when they had to deal with interference on many matters, by the chairman. I'm not sticking up for Roeder - merely playing a little devil's advocate.
The real problem at Newcastle was Shepherd. Hopefully he is now a toothless tiger (think I might have said that already!).

Put his foot down, stamp down his managerial authority, tell the Chairman that if he wasn’t running things his way then there are plenty of other clubs queuing up to hire him.
Oh……..

I know I keep asking this, but could you please please please post a list of Roeder’s results from when he took over before being given the job full time?
Despite the boost you have with ANY new manager (apart from Les Reid) I think you’d find a lot of these quality results were against teams who were just about relegated (Sunderland, West Brom) or teams who had notihng left to play for (Chelsea).

Aye - that probably had something to do with it as well. Roeder was probably so desperate for the chance, he was willing to work under such conditions.
