When it comes to Plasma then you should definitely be looking at Panasonic. They have consistently made the best Plasmas for years now.

I ought to justify my statement. I work for a company that sells 1000s of plasmas and LCDs every year (to retail). We get to see most models and makes here (and observe their performance in the field).

Panasonic arguably make the best LCDs too - they are certainly superb. Whoever said in the other thread that Samsung make the best LCDs was talking crap. They aren't bad - perfectly acceptable - but not amongst the best at all (I do own one of their small LCD TVs though).

Philips were great CRT TV manufacturers but haven't shone in the Plasma nor LCD markets. They are getting better though.

Sony are consistently good. Their LCDs are very good.

Toshiba are also pretty consistent.

LG I'd put in the same category as Samsung. Good, functional, shouldn't cause any serious problems and reasonably priced, but not among the best.

I've heard literally thousands of conversations between our techie and sales guys. You tend to pick things up in that situation.

Is there a significant price differential between Plasma and LCD?

Also, I saw one of those tv stands with built in cinema sound (about £700). Any opinions on them?
Is it made by Yamaha by any chance? They are really excellent if your room suits. Ideally you sitting position needs to be away from the wall as the system 'bounces' the rear channels off the wall behind you.

Cheers Retro - always trust a Gooner

I think it was Yamaha Serps - The room is 18ft by 12ft.

I could 'negotiate' with Mrs H as she is keen to buy well on this occasion.

Chaps, having a couple of issues with my Samsung 26-inch. When watching football, long shots (i.e. not close ups) see the players quite pixelated/blurred around their edges, and I've noticed it appears to happen to long-range shots in films or programmes also. This only happens on the freeview, normal is fine.

Would this be down to a problem with the tv, the inbuilt freeview box or just a poor freeview signal?

Hello lovers of TVs.
The girlfriend and are are going to get a new TV as we only have a portable in our lounge at the moment. we arent too flash with the cash so dont want to spend more than £300.

we found this from dabs.com and were contemplating getting it. obviously it is only a 'value' TV so it isnt going to be amazing, but it should do a job yeah?

its just going to be used for TV watching and Wii playing (no speakers connected or anything).

Yay or nay? and if nay, can you suggest something similar in terms of size/price?

help would be much appreciated. ta.

has anyone used hyperfi.com (may be .co.uk)?

Their prices seem amazing, albeit for ex display etc. Just wanna know their reliability.

Will almost certainly be buying a panasonic (on Serps'[?] recommendation) when i get my 865 quid (minus tax) xmas bonus.
