You can have a tv that allows output of 1080p, but the 360 for example doesnt support this format. Even the HD-DVD ad on wont play films in 1080p.

Think a few games are starting to come out in 1080p but not many at all.

Guys what can you tell me about speakers for the TV?

I have got a Samsung N series, 32 inch.

I knew when I bought it that the sound was an issue and that is certainly the case.

Due to certain factors at home, ie Sons FC Jr being the right age to tear the house apart, it is not practical to have a 5.1 speaker set up.

Equally, until the format war is resolved I am not going to spend vast amounts of money on a DVD and I have bought a cheap upscaling DVD in the meantime.

What I need to know is, can I use a PC 2.1 speaker system for the TV?

The DVD doesn't have a digital audio output. I assume that means it doesn't have a built in amp? Is that right? If I connect these speaker i) would it work? ii) would it improve the sound quality? iii) Do the speakers need to be shielded?

I've ordered one of them Hannspree XV37s from Intekx.com for 475 quid, I'll let you know how I get on.

Only problem seems to be with the VGA going by AVForums, quite confident I can get around it though because I had similar problems with my current non-HD Bush 30" LCD and I figured it out eventually.

mmmkay well you may or may not know from the PS3 thread im looking at buying a HDTV.

In terms of 1080p is that "true HD" and is it only 42inch and bigger that support it? Basically I want one that will give the best possible pic for my PS3 and the cheaper the better.

Been looking at this baby http://www.digitaldirect.co.uk/products_moreinfo3/index...uct_id=12737#Scene_1 but I want to get the best i can for the least i can (well duh).

Okay i goota questions and i'm very confused.

I got a 32" HD LCD tv. Is it worth upgrading to an upscaling DVD player?

Some sources say that the TV will already be upscaling for me. Some say that the HDMI connection is no different to Component. So getting an upscaling DVD player will make no difference. Opinions?

All HD tvs come with a built in scaler. That's why they can show SD transmissions. However, like everything, some are better than others. Panasonic, Pioneer and Fujitsu have reputably the best built in scalers.

As for buying your own, it's piece of string time again. There's no point in buying a bargain bucket scaler if your tv's scaler is already doing a good job.

As with most things in life, you get what you pay for.
