Are they likely to focus their ability on rolling the rest of the league over or is taking a punt on them in the UEFA Cup a decent idea?

Given their quality I'd have thought that their reshaped squad would be in with a very good shout of taking both titles.

Bayern Munich's general manager Uli Hoeness confirmed on Monday night that 13-year-old Peruvian child prodigy Pier Larrauri will join the German giants, but insisted no contract had been signed.

"The story was exaggerated: he will simply come to us and play for one of our youth sides this season, that is all," Hoeness told German television channel ARD at half-time of Bayern's German Cup tie at Burghausen.

"We did not sign a contract and no money has been exchanged.

"We will see at the end of this year if he is good enough to continue at Bayern," said Hoeness.

The teenage prodigy has been compared to Argentine Lionel Messi and came into contact with Bayern via Peruvian international Claudio Pizarro, who left Munich this summer for Chelsea.

At the end of July, Jaime Noriega, president of Larrauri's Esther Grande de Bentin club in Peru, told the local press that the youngster had already signed for Bayern.

The German giants initially denied the story, which featured in the Spanish press, until Hoeness confirmed the youngster was Munich bound.

Stuttgart duo land German awards

Mario Gomez and Armin Veh have respectively been voted Bundesliga player and coach of the year for 2006/07 by pundits in Germany after VfB Stuttgart were crowned champions for the first time in 15 years.

Veh, whose side finished two points clear of FC Schalke 04, said: "Titles are always special for a coach, an acknowledgement of a job well done. However, this award is not mine alone. It also belongs to my assistant coaches who have helped me a great deal in my daily work and of course to my players as well." Gomez was also an instrumental figure in last season's triumph, scoring 14 goals in 25 appearances. "This is a very big honour for me," said the 22-year-old. Veh the obvious choice, but IMO best player should've either been Hitzlsperger or Gekas

Even though the Burghausen match ended in a lucky escape for Bayern I can't see them struggling through the season. Ribery certainly sounds like he's been a very shrewd signing for them.
