Marca are reporting that Lahm will join Barça in 2009 on a free, although they could do a Klose and sign him in 2008. Apparently Bayern want 15m.

Van der Vaart should join Valencia. The Spanish league needs a player like him.

No League Cup in 2008

The season-opening League Cup has been shelved for next year, on account of the EURO 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland.

The supervisory and executive boards of the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga GmbH have decided, in conjunction with league association executive, to put the 2008 tournament on ice.

League President and Supervisory Board Chairman Dr. Reinhard Rauball said, "The competition cannot take place in any sensible sporting fashion, due to EURO 2008. For that reason, we have decided not to run the League Cup."

Bayern München record winners

The League Cup has been played out as a pre-season competition every summer since 1997. FC Bayern München have won six of the eleven tournaments to date.

They're also trying hard to come up with a new format for the league cup for subsequent seasons, but there's little agreement so far. The only thing everybody agrees on is that the current format sucks.
